A similar outcome would do this time. If we had a McGeeny, a Marsden and a McConville to revel in space, it probably would end up the same.

Armagh 2-15  Longford 0-12
Armagh's quest for a place in the quarter-finals of the league were enhanced by this handsome victory over a spirited Longford side at the Athletic Grounds The lively Longford side underlined frailties in Armagh's defensive mechanism in the opening stages and these flaws will certainly be more severly punished further down the line. Armagh can, however, take satisfaction from this victory which was never in doubt after they had stifled Longford's initial blitz to go into a 1-7 to 0-4 half-time lead. Cathal O'Rourke's 21st minute goal cushioned Aramgh at a stage when Longford galvanised by Barry, were threatening to unseat their hosts. But when Jarlath Burns touched home Armagh's second goal in the 40th minute after a typical Martin McQuillan solo run, the home team revealed their more expansive skills, with Marsden. NIcGeeney and McConville flourishing in new found space. Longford, despite the efforts of Pauric Farrell and . rden at midfield, were never able to impose themselves on the match, and it was left to Barry and Davis to carry their forward threat, but they lacked support.

Amragh: B Tierney. E McNulty. G Reid. I McEntee. M McQuillan. J McNulty A McCann. J Burns (1-1), P McGrane (0-1); K McGeeney (0-2), J McEntee, 0 McConville (0-3); C O'Rourke (1- 5) N Smyth (0-1), D Marsden (0-2).

Longford: G Conrad C Keogh. G Brady, P McCormack; C Hannily, F McNamee. P J O'Neill. P Farrell. E Bardon (0-1); M Mulleacty, 1 Smrillan. S Donlon (0-2); D Barry (0-5), N Sheridan. P Davis (0-4). Subs: C Conefry for O'Neill. D Blessinglon for Mulleady. Releree P McEneaney (Monaghan).

That Armagh team would run rings around the current 15.

Don't remember that match at all.

There would have been no free tickets to a game like that so you wouldn't have been at it :P

Hard to remember this I'd say as it was pre 2002 when, we all know, football was invented.

Some improvement needed from Armagh this week or Longford will run away with it.  I wonder how many of the Cross lads will get a run out.  Hopefully Donaghy will get a start as well

For a few years in the 2000's, when McGeeney scored, we lost. It happened against Donegal in 07, but with time nearly up, I thought maybe the jinx was about to end. Then Kevin Cassidy scored that goal at the death.

Bit of a Neville Neville job that ;D  Are you making the trek up Boots?

Abble

Geezer actually lined out in corner forward for a while. we would have had a good laugh just watching him pre-game in the warm-up taking a few shots, because not too many shots were getting over the black spot  :D
we still beat the dubs in breffni though, in a league quarter-final i think, during his spell playing as a forward

If i remember right McGeeney was CHF against Tyrone in the championship in 97 in Omagh. He kicked a few bad wides (he wasn't the only one!) but i didn't see him much in the forwards after that!

McGeeney lined out at midfield alongside burns in Omagh '97. Armagh must have kicked about 20 wides that day with mcconville making his championship debut.
