It was always strange that it wasn't aligned with Hogan rules at times as well, can't remember the details but wasn't it a case that if you were repeating the year and had a young birthday (U18.5) you could play Hogan but not MacRory which was U18?

It was the other way around, MacRory was u18.5 and Hogan u18. Not so much do with football and more to do with the variance in school ages between the two jurisdictions.

Quote from: J70 on January 17, 2025, 03:04:50 PMDon't think any is saying it's the be-all-and-end-all, just like Donegal's usual absence is not "debilitating".

It's a complex, but interesting discussion.

But for now, godspeed Damien Diver, at least for as long as they let you!

It's all good craic until South West Donegal beat Abbey VS in the Semi Final and prevent a Donegal side from playing in the Hogan.

What are the schools involved with this 'SW Donegal' outfit?

Killybegs, Carrick, Glenties, Dungloe and Gweedore (not writing out all the full names!).

Collectively amount to about 2000 students, boys and girls.

Champion The Wonder Horse

I remember Pobalscoil Chloich Cheannfhaola playing McRory.

I'm guessing that was back in the 80s when some of the Killybegs lads from Donegal's 1992 team were boarding there? I think they won the McLarnon with those lads, a few years after Eunans had won it.

That's crazy.

From Carrick to GD must be an hour's journey.

Why don't they just do regional teams, say Killybegs and Carrick then another team of GD and Dungloe.

I just find it's mad that there are 5 schools over a huge geographical area.

And then to label it SW.

Yes, early 80s. Maghera lucky to get past them and St Columb's on the way to a McRory. 82 or 83 I reckon.

All school enrolments are available online for those interested enough.

St Micheal's got 718, they had alot more, yrs bck. That still more boys than nearly any other school. It's not a small pick fball wise.

Yes, probably bigger than St Pat's and the convent.

Them Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal ones develop quicker too. Big thick heads on them at 16.
