Yet again, there are rumblings about trouble in the camp in Offaly. We're turning into a laughing stock at this stage, if we weren't already there, and it's very frustrating. This latest appointment, of course, dragged on from July until November (lunacy) and we had Niall McNamee getting pissed off at it. We've also got a Rhode lobby looking for Stephen Darby to get the job, but whatever the reasons, it's ridiculous, and the County Board deserve most of the blame for shafting Paul O'Kelly back in 2003.

The players seem very quick to resort to 'it's all the managers' fault as well, when obviously they need to look at themselves too, but it's a real sickener to be looking in from the outside, when you know that if they got their act together they would be competitive. Organisation, preparation, commitment and a plan will take you a long way regardless of your raw material, and when you have some good raw material you can even start winning things. At the moment we don't know if we have raw material, but we don't seem to have any of the other 4 ingredients.

I can't even remember the Offaly Management since 2003, but I'll take a go

2003 - Paul O'Kelly (1 year)
2004 - Gerry Fahy (1 year)
2005 - Kevin Kilmurray (2 years)
2007 - Pat Roe (2 years)
2009 - Ritchie Connor (about 4 months)
2009 - Tom Cribben (2 years)
2011 - Gerry Cooney (Nov 11 onwards)

7 managers in 9 years. Has anyone else anything like that?

Enough of the béal bocht AZ, Offaly will fancy their chances of an ambush come mid-June the way Kildare are going at the moment!!
There's Seán Brady going in, what dya think Seán?

Are Offaly playing Kildare in the Championship this year? Someone should let Bernard Flynn know – he was harping on yesterday about the Leinster semi-final meeting between Kildare and Meath next summer.

I had presumed Offaly, Carlow and Wicklow were just going to play off some sort a blitz between them or something!!

We're in a bad way DH. I don't even know will we turn up.

Seriously, has any other county a managerial turnover like that in the last 10 years.

Yes, yes we do!

Really? I knew Cavan had a lot, they were in my mind. But 7 in 9 years? Tommy Carr was there, McHuigh? Val Andrews x 2, Donal Keoghan. Who else?

Last 10 years we had John Tobin,Tommy Carr,Val Daly,John Maughan,Paul Earley,Michael Ryan,Fergal O'Donnell,Des Newton. Take it from me a county managerial turnover like that has a damaging effect thankfully Fergal steadied the ship & hopefully Des continues to sail us out of choppy waters.
The key to success is to be consistently competitive -- if you bang on the door often it will open

We had five in the six years from 2005-11. Boylan to 2005, Barry 2006, Coyle 2007-8, O'Brien 2009-10, Banty 2011 - present.

Eh starting with Wee Marty who chucked it in in 97 the ones I can remember are Liam Austin, Mattie Kerrigan, Val Andrews, Eamon Coleman, Martin McIlkennon, Donal Keogan, Grimley, Tom Truck, Val (second coming), we do a particularly good line in advisors/dual management teams so you can throw in Cassidy from Derry, Morrisson, think Terry Hyland has had some sort of involvement as well. We had four or five lads on the line in Wexford Park the other Sunday couldn't put a name on a few of them.

Honorable mentions to a few who took the player manager and selection roles on themselves over the years most notably Dermot McCabe with an honorable mention to Seanie Johnston.

To be fair, Paul Earley was never a true manager, just temping while the board looked for a more permanent replacement.

Some great names in there. Surprising they didn t do better ;).

Still I think it s probably worse to be stuck with duds for 3/4 years, like us, while the best management team hardly got a year before gettin the shoe in the hole.
