Every club pays somebody so the conversation doesn't matter.

And every club has a blow in😉

Exactly and some more successful than
others.

Some clubs are built completely of blow ins 😉

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on November 06, 2025, 11:28:37 AMCan think of only one club that really doesn't bring in outsiders as managers that much, maybe 2.. Dunloy and Rossa, the Johnnies also rely on in house for the main, the rest, well if you ain't from those clubs then ya haven't much of a leg to stand on and throw shit..

Clubs will do what they feel right for them, so let them at it, internally these posts are advertised and the options are there for clubmen to take it on. If not the only other option is the committee take that role or the look outside..

That day we pay for senior managers in our club is the day ill stop giving my time for the club.

Ive been involved in teams for 14 years coming now in all 3 codes and all 3 senior teams at one stage along that. Not a single penny has ever been sought for doing this nor has anyone else (bar the S&C coaches) taken from managements.

If we start to pay the managers what about all the others then who give hours up each week like myself.

If we ever start that crap then ill be finished giving my time up for free. Mercenaries coming in for a year with no care for the club or what happens the next year.

Nah, pass.

Is Murtagh O'Brien now relegated to a mere S&C Coach?

Is he the manger -  no

Was the rest of the management getting paid - no

Was outside funding used for MOB - most likely

Our senior hurling & camogie set ups didnt get a penny either for their managements

You see when you're talking about this in a general sense and managers not getting paid etc.

Is it a case of they get fuel (as in the correct milage, nothing more) OR do they get nothing, as in absolutely not a penny?

Anybody know?

I remember Davy Fitz on the line when Mushy was in charge. Probably came up from Clare for the craic

I think when various managers have been appointed at county level they've done some sort of soft soap interview to give the paying masses some insight into how they intend to run things.

Presume the Antrim all star thing next Friday with the county manager as special guest (hopefully not wearing the Slaughtneil or other club top) will provide such an opportunity.

Maybe an intrepid interviewer might ask the question re wearing two hats managing club and county and how that might work.

Belfast GAA man

Will cargin get a bigger cheque book out this year ??
Dunloy proper club

2 attractive semi finals tomorrow in the u21 championship. Hard to call either game. St. Galls outright favourites for my money but all 4 teams are capable. It bodes well for the future of Antrim championship football.

NatSoSaff

Whitehill heavy favourites for the B?

Murtagh o brien helped dunloy win their first championship in 89 years, should get a statue built aswell as collect his 50gs..

Is he S&C or what?

Where's he from?

M/Felt I remember him on Derry minors many yrs ago.

Very highly rated coach. Dunloy were singing his praises from months back, some hefty gambles landed from 7/1.

NatSoSaff

Poor promotion and coverage of the u21 Championship. Looked like 2 tightly contested battles in the A grade today. I remain very confident St. Galls will be champions. A big boost for the club going into their continued senior revival next year.

Anyone at either game?

bannside

Poor promotion! Get used to it.

Apparently Sean Kelly is NOT standing for election as county PRO. For some reason he has had a rethink.....

Will be a huge loss imo - man took promoting all things Saffron to a different level during his previous tenure.

I think anyone who would have the audacity to challenge this opinion would find themselves heavily outweighed.

He's a coach. Been involved with a lot of Derry county teams, the lads really bought into his ideas this year.
