Guys I feel it would be unfair to not address the comments made recently..

So one time post during my self imposed ban during Championship.

If there is a need for a response I'll happily take a private message.

The game at the weekend at Corrigan has generated a few misplaced remarks by people that are happy to remain faceless nameless behind the computer

Some facts, the goal that has annoyed one club was a simple enough decision at the time, and was given after consultation between the ref and his umpires. To them the ball was played legally. The player passed the ball to an on running O'Boyle and palmed into the net. If video evidence can show it differently then that can be a talking point and looked at, what followed was abuse to umpires and ref and resulted in one player being booked. That player was shortly given a black carded, which results in a red. both decisions correct.

The Cargin lad that was red carded was given after the ref awarded the goal and there was an entanglement between him and the keeper, personally what I viewed was definitely a black card for a trip on the keeper as I missed the rest.

It seems though that from that entanglement that a hand had struck player and the ref followed that with a red card. Hopefully for those involved there was video evidence of the game and it will show what had happened

Now the point of this post was to ask people to have a word with themselves. It is becoming increasingly more difficult to get ref's at the minute and even more difficult to get umpires..

When we get people shouting abuse at people for giving up their time to help our games its pure bonkers to assume these people have, what one person said, sinister motives, when making a judgement on what they seen.

These discussion boards are read and people do then make judgements on peoples character and they have repercussions.

So have a bitta cop on, no one wants to take away the passion we have for the game and what is on the line for clubs/players/supporters but the level of abuse is getting worse, more so from the sidelines as they feel they can shout what they want without impacting what is happening on the pitch.

No real abuse has been given out worth talking about - I hear more at any game than on here ffs. As for the red card for us, it was indeed how you saw it (by the letter of the law) but you are omitting the reason for CJ grabbing the keepers leg. This is something missed by the official closest to the incident, whom calls the ref to issue a red card. Make it make sense.

Maybe this will help for context on the officials job/role/decisions.

For clarity I refereed one game at u14 under pressure as a ref failed to show and the game would not have gone ahead. I made mistakes and was abused. Questionable career choice decision made, avoid at all costs.

A good few years ago when I was acting as an umpire at a hurling game for a club mate the following happened. Now note this was a reserve championship game - so while competitive should be noted was not county final or senior championship pressure.
A long free came in, as the ball dropped in and over the bar I followed it with my eyes (I assume that was the correct thing to do).
At the same time I heard a thud/crack/slap sort of noise. It's ten years ago so I'm not 100%.
The keeper lifts the ball to hit a quick puck out but as I notice a forward crouched over holding his head I make the assumption he's been injured.
I called the ref as he was unaware of the player injured (no remote technology then) and he stopped play to have the injured player looked at.
The medic and manager came over. At which point the manager gave me verbals along the lines of I seen the incident.

I laughed into myself as I thought well I didn't see it but I knew something took place and I have ensured your player is being looked at for injury.

Maybe that will help make sense for some of decisions made.

last weekend there was 8 SFC games if you were to attend all you would have to attend 8 different venues (which with the home/away netural venue thats fair enough) you would have had to pay £56 with zero season pass to enter all championship games available.

In comparsion Derry last week 8 SFC games if you wanted to catch all games, you had to travel to 1 venue. you would have had to pay £25 with an option of a season pass which gets you into every game and allows you to stream and rewatch every game.

If anyone has ventured to any other counties for their SFC is it as dear as antrim is?

I think we all forget that people volunteer to do these roles. In our own passion for our clubs and games we forget that we desperately need these officials or we have nothing.

I'm as guilty as anyone here at hurling grief at officials and I've had to apologies to a few after games for getting carried away with my statements - some of whom I'm very friendly with.

Ive refereed a few games in my time and it is both extremely hard to do and thankless, esp when its your own club players etc giving you the most grief during the game

Yes fair enough NGG, and refs are indeed light on the ground. Maybe its the same for umpires I dont know. Ref was fine on Sunday imho.

That is poor given that the games are group games.  Season ticket for Armagh was £80 before Christmas I think may have went up to £90 but still good value, with three group games in senior, intermediate and junior to be played then preliminary quarter finals.  Would have thought Antrim would have been doing a bit more to try and entice people to come to the games.

Derry full season ticket is £80 and includes all games in all championships across both codes up to and including the final. Also £5 from it goes back to your club - sure you couldn't be bad to that!
