We'd need a playoff with Aghagallon and Rossa also then who finished bottom 4 in the league and avoided a league relegation. Some ridiculous posts on here

A better solution would be 4 divisions. Pick your championship but you cant play down as it used to be. Div 1 Senior (10 team). 2 Intermediate (8 team) 3 Junior (8 team) 4 Junior B (8 team)

Honoured the competition. Fielded basically a reserve team last year v St Brigids in a semi final ( same bt brigids team who conceded this year's semi final)

We let Dunloy play Senior champ from division two and now parachute them into the league and not a word said?

You didn't let Dunloy do anything.

They were told if they wanted to remain in the senior championship they would have to play D1. The county offered it to the club and they took it.

They didn't ask to be put in D1, they would of been content to play D2 and senior championship. They earned that right by virtue of getting out of the groups last year.

But apparently the attitude is, amongst some clubs, that you can only play senior championship if you are in D1. Maybe ask the clubs who went about this behind doors to try and ensure that.

So, here we are.

What clubs ensured that happened?

Na Glinntí Glasa

Last year there was a cosy gathering of clubs that wanted to ensure that it was D1 league = senior championship.

All going on in the back ground wanting the senior championship to be division 1 clubs + intermediate championship winners.

I wasn't aware of that. Suppose you reap what you sow.

So you are saying Dunloy would prefer not to be in Div1 of the senior football but we're basically forced to be? Is this a running theme with Dunloy football? they want to have their cake and eat it. Enter a lower division league then want into the top level championship? They entered their U16 football in Div 2, handed out some massive beatings to genuine Div2 teams, then enter the A championship which they are currently in the final of this Thursday.
Of course the senior championship should only be Div 1 teams, a division one of 8 or 10 not 16 by the way.

saffron123

they were offered a choice. Div 1 & senior championship or div 2 & intermediate. Trying to align league & championships in the first place is completely brain dead

No, they were in Division 2 and their position represented where they deserved to be at the end of the season. We didn't earn promotion to Division 1 but were entitled to play senior football championship.

When there was a move to change it that it was only Division 1 clubs could play senior championship the county asked us to step up to Div 1.

Of course there was a lot concern in the club about doing this. We haven't played D1 football in a lifetime and weren't exactly cruising through D2.The fear was that without any of our stronger county hurlers we would struggle badly but that has proved to not be the case this year.

We have a large hurling panel but not the same with football. We couldn't field a reserve football team for a season alongside the senior side. Even with the improvement of football in the club hurling is still the main focus for many.

I take the point about the U16's. We got that one badly wrong but at least they are in the A championship. Meanwhile our minors are in B football.

The county were forced to streamline SFC to a maximum of 16 teams due to a change in the Official Guide regulations in 2023.

What's happening with Junior Championship?

Have Laochra Loch Lao won group 2 on score difference in 3 way mini league with Na Piarsaigh and Éire Óg? With the latter 2 now in quarter finals?

Quote from: Hectic on September 08, 2025, 08:51:16 AMDon't see any mention of a relegation final after group games.  Bottom goes down.

That's the way the competitions are set up and how a team did in the league is irrelevant.

Lot here saying all year that the league is irrelevant anyway.

And looking at how some teams have performed in Championship compared to league it's hard to argue that the league is the measure.

Aldergrove finished top half but got beaten in Championship by 2 teams finishing bottom 5.

All Saints got to league final but got slaughtered by Lamh Dhearg who finished 7 points behind them in the league and closer to the bottom 4 than the top 4.

And if we end up with further changes to league structures all 3 involved in relegation playoffs could end up relegated anyway.

Any further tweaks to the league will based on league positions rather than championship I'd imagine; 4x unequal groups versus a league where everyone played each other - albeit without county players for some games.

Hectic

No idea what way any working group would be thinking.  Maybe depends who would be on said working group too.

But surely we value our Championship higher than our League?

I believe the two paragraphs above the one you put in bold shows what we can take from any team's League face v Championship face.

imtommygunn

LD with a lot less county players too. (Dunno if Ryan Murray ended up in county panel).
