We will not be having access to county players through the club league campaign regardless, so with even 8 or 10 teams in Div 1 there would still be hammerings handed out, with teams who contribute strongly to Antrim being disproportionately punished and possibly relegated.

Intermediate and Junior would be stronger on the Ulster stage - that's about it.

Has a 16 team Div 1 made us better?  Evidence would say no

That wasn't what I asked

Antrim v London - Newry 1:45pm - June 1st

If I understand it right; we need to beat Tipps winning score by +5 or more scores or if Leitrim win don't give them more than 5 points better than our score to go through.

That's if we even beat LondaĆn.

Well Armagh have an 8-team Div 1 and they are All Ireland champions. Is that the type of evidence you want?

Conversely Tyrone have a 16-team Div 1 which is generally regarded as the best in Ulster.  Who is right then?

Both competitive yet both arrived at organically.

Antrim's decision has been undertaken with any due process but merely for self serving reasons contrary to any evidence based on certain clubs performances.

Perhaps the 16 team league will work eventually to raise all clubs, but it will need time to settle as we are currently left with a shockingly poor Div 2 standard and a weird hybrid Div 1. Seeing as the reasoning was poor and rushed from the start, maybe leaving the leagues alone for a few seasons to settle will tell us more.

A player will develop more playing as many matches as possible at a competitive level.

In my opinion, Antrim don't really have even 8 "senior" clubs but you probably need that as a minimum for a league. The problem is now, nobody will vote for change. You'll have half of division 1 not voting for it as they don't want to go down then 2 and 3 won't vote for it as it will mean stronger clubs coming down and knocking them further back from winning a league at their level.

The county issue, very simply should mean that league placings have no bearing on promotion or relegation in the championship.

Around a third of league games to date (div 1) have resulted in 10 - sometimes more - point drubbings. This is before the usual SFC challengers start pitch training too, which I'd wager is only starting around now.

Where have they been training so far?
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

The gym mainly, pitch for games I would presume

Duine Inteacht Eile

A whole pile of new rules introduced but teams haven't been training on the pitch yet.

I mean, who exactly do you think is believing that?

Take the Mark

I am being presumptious but I'd be surprised if the so called big guns have been on the pitch outside of games very much at all.

New rules will have contributed to this too.

So no big teams are pitch training, are they just sending their players out to play matches when they aren't fit, increasing their chance of injury? some sh1te talked on here.

Quote from: Take the Mark on April 16, 2025, 10:52:26 PMNo big upsets tonight. The only shock for me is how Aldergrove have 3 wins to their name, but hey, thats the state of Division 1 at the minute.

Curiosity got the better of me and I took a race over to it. Shouldn't have bothered, both teams short of a few men not that it would've made any difference. Cargin were incredibly powerful and have nailed the swarm tackle. Pat kicked some outrageous scores, would like to see him back in the Antrim fold. Great intensity all over the park from a team that haven't had many pitch sessions yet this year. Aldergrove won't be too concerned, I doubt they had Cargin away targeted at the start of the year. Darren reffed well, didn't have much to do but kept communicating new rules all throughout.

Maybe they have been flat out for the past month then oh wise one

AllStar15

"not many" six weeks ago. Are you telling me Cargin have had no sessions?

Take the Mark

No, I never said that either
