And he revealed the financial pressures that some of Ireland's household names were now facing: "Some of the talent can't afford to pay their bills or bloody mortgages with what they earn and with work not being renewed.

Mr Kenny's wife Kathy also spoke to defend her husband. "During the elections, everybody said to me: 'Is he (Mr Kenny) the only one working in RTE at all? You must never see him,'" she told the Irish Independent.

"This is the fifth exhibition Pat has opened for me," said the 55-year-old artist, who is battling multiple sclerosis."We met when he interviewed me on 'The Late Late Show' five years ago. He has been offering me his support ever since," Ms Graham said.

Marian Finucane's fee of €570,000 is seen as the most controversial because she only broadcasts four hours a week. The presenter saw a 10 per cent reduction to €513,270.

I had seriously thought that she had retired, untill this summer when i was saving turf and listened to the Radio on Saturday and Sundays. She has a real D4 pompus style to her show and that is clearly her listenership. What a crazy amont of money to pay some one who is not a house hold name (anymore)!

4 hours a week she is on air! 2 hours on a Sat morning, same on a Sunday morning.
It's basically a chat about what's in the papers and what's been going on over the week.
Mighty money for what is basically being discussed for nathin' in kitchens and pubs the length and breadth of the country.

I hope the poor devils will be able to manage on their reduced pay packets. ;D
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

Let them off! And see them get snapped up by BBC, ITV and the American TV networks, just like we were always told they would be.

Saw her arguing that she does more than 4 hours a week, that she watches and reads about current affairs as research for her show!

She also only seems to work for about 30 weeks a year. Let TV3 or Newstalk have her, she wouldn't earn half that amount.
