I know you should always be looking to improve, but I don't like the fact that they've broken up what looked to have been a very dangerous looking full forward line, to accomodate a guy who is a nuisance more than anything. B Brogan and O'Gara worked well off eachother last year as a 2 man line, now it places a massive reliance again on Brogan to score more, and I think Connolly plays much better in a central role. We'll see.

As for Bastick to midfield, its a not a great move. Cahill is not a great intercounty midfielder, but has a better temperament and is a much better footballer than the more physical but sometimes plain silly Bastick.....

Philly McMahon for me is no loss, he got an all star last year because most teams Dublin played last year pulled a man out of the FF line and he was the free man. When he had to mark Bray he was badly caught. Hopefully Conlon takes his chance but smells a bit of Vincents nepotism

Will be a very tight game, but if Kildare attack down Dublin's inexperienced right side they could have some joy......
Every time you open your mouth you have this wonderful ability to continually confirm what I think.

DUBLIN (SFC v Kildare)

1. Stephen Cluxton
2. Paul Conlon
3. Rory O'Carroll
4. Michael Fitzsimons
5. James McCarthy
6. Ger Brennan
7. Kevin Nolan
8. Denis Bastick
9. Michael Darragh Macauley
10. Paul Flynn
11. Alan Brogan
12. Bryan Cullen (Captain)
13. Diarmuid Connolly
14. Eoghan O'Gara
15. Bernard Brogan

From a Kildare point of view I'd be happy enough if that Dublin team lined out. O'Gara is the kind of player that should suit Mick Foley. He's always acquitted himself well when marking bigger men like Joe Sheridan, Michael Murphy and Donie Kingston. Very surprised that either Barry Cahill or David Henry aren't playing with a view to counteract Johnny. Surely McAuley won't mark him if he's carrying a knock? I'm sure Kildare will be looking to test out the young corner back early on.
O'Gara unlike Sheridan/Murphy etc is an extremely mobile player with a good burst of pace which will be a far different challenge.
I also think Cahill/Henry etc will be kept for the last 30 mins when Kildare normally have their best spells

The auld pundit and journalist watch is all over the Dubs to win this so far with no one tipping Kildare bar the Hoganstand

Paul Curran - got the impression he only went Dublin because well he's a Dub but good analysis of the game..
Paul Bealin - worst analyst this week..
Johnny Magee - see Paul Curran
Liam Hayes - made a good case for Kildare but not enough A forwards (95% of inter-county forwards are B or C class) - very good on the radio by the way (Newstalk, where else) - analyst of the week..
David Brady- actually made a valid point that Kildare don't score goals, very true, and thinks that will be our achilles heal
Cian Murphy - focused on Kildare wide tally blah! blah!
Hoganstand - felt Dublin's concentration levels could be there achillles hill and Kildare can punish them

I tipped Kildare!! http://shane-sportsramblings.blogspot.com/

But O'Gara when he gets the ball is no Michael Murphy or Joe Sheridan in fairness to him.

All well and good but he's certainly not as mobile or as quick as Connolly.
There's Seán Brady going in, what dya think Seán?

If Connolly starts at FF, I think Dublin will win.

Has O'Gara been out injured?  Don'r remember him in previous games this year.  Maybe he is playing great club football at the minute?

No need for that AZ, good blog by the way...

Pete Canavan goes for Kildare whereas Brian Talty, Keith Barr and Senan Connell continue the 'Can't see anything but a Dublin' win school of thought.

Funny the theme for the week from a Dublin perspective seems to be all about scoring goals and I noticed against Laois early in the game Dublin were going for goals it will be interesting to see how it transpires. It's like Dublin now believe they can only win games by scoring goals and their inside line is their only threat. Kildare have a greater spread of scorers and I'd say only Mcloughlin would lack confidence in the opposition half, in one sense it leaves it easy to plan against and I can see Kildare slowing Dublin down and frustrating them, he might not be the pretty stuff that we are more renowned for and Brennan and Connolly will be targeted as both have seen red against Kildare in recent years.

Anyhow best of luck to both teams and no controversy....

Draw game...

Think him and Marc O Se got a month or two ban for a bit of a punch up.

The only times I can remember Kildare beating Dublin in championship football were in replays so we'd take that again!

The Dublin selection gives me hope. I would be less confident if Connolly was flanked by the two Brogans because Mick Foley is vulnerable to smaller pacier forwards. Kildare will probably target Ger Brennan like in 2009 when he lost the rag. Kildare need a big game out of Eoghan O'Flaherty on the forty and it's overdue. Bastick has also shown indiscipline in the past which makes it an even greater pity that Daryl Flynn isn't ready yet. Rumours going around of two changes (at least) on the Kildare fifteen and one of them is definitely a bit of a punt. All will be revealed on Sunday no dobut.

Trying to analyse this match would fry your brain! On the one hand, the Kildare forwards couldn't hit a cow's backside with a banjo. We don't have any natural forwards and the one lad we do have who kicks the occasional point is playing at midfield. We're just a load of gym monkeys who will gallop all day and kick the ball pathetically wide ad nauseum. On the other hand, we're the most overrated and overhyped team in the land according to many - see Res Dubs for more details! So we're either crap or we're class...... which is it ffs?

INDIANA

KIldare have to win on Sunday.

Mc Geeney cant go 4 years without a trophy.

All the pressure is on Kildare.

Overall I'm not that bothered about the result to the extent I couldnt give a rashers.

A Leinster title is of little benefit to this crew. Its All-Ireland or bust.

And whether its the front or back door I couldnt care less.

I fancy Kildare because their need is greater. I'd go as far to say Gilroy has experimented with his team on Sunday with the advantage of a safety net of another game.

If you were any use you'd be playing.

micka the dub

totally disagree with you,we have scored plenty of goals so far this year but our points tally is not too shabby either. thing is though, with kildare having 2 converted mf in the full back line will they be able to stop us scoring goals,i doubt it and with kildare's running game going straight in to our blanket defence and being restricted to shooting long range imo thats where the winning of this game will come from for the dubs, kildare have not got the forwards of cork that would just laugh at our blanket defence and kill us with long range points. having said if the lilys win id wish yiz the best for the year but even being the very pessimistic dub that i am i fancy us to win by 4 .

It's ok to want your team to win on Sunday Indiana.
There's no shame in it.

I think the irony of what they post is lost on them. Some interesting opinions but too many cliched opinions for me to pass to much heed, normally only read their u/21 and minor match threads as the summer heads have no interest in those..
