Do you expect Kildare to play with a sweeper?
I know people say it spoils the game and affects your own attack but to leave anyone in that Dublin FF line one on one with a defender is asking for trouble, especially Bernard Brogan.
You saw in the league and in the Laois match how many goal chances Dublin create and with BB now much less selfish and Connolly really stepping up to the mark, I think it would be insane not to play a man in front of the FF line.

Look at Armagh last Sunday.

Yea I agree about McGrillen. He won't play as bad as he did against them in 2009. I wouldn't be surprised if they put McLoughlin on Bernard Brogan either though.

Yea I'd say Morgan O'Flaherty will play as a sweeper again. It's been working well for us so far anyway and as you say you'd need an extra man dropping back infront of the Brogans.

Same team named that beat Meath:

Shane Connolly
Andrew McLoughlin
Mick Foley
Hugh McGrillen
Gary White
Brian Flanagan
Emmet Bolton
John Doyle
Hugh Lynch
Morgan O'Flaherty
Eoghan O'Flaherty
Eamonn Callaghan
Alan Smith
Tomas O'Connor
James Kavanagh

Morgan O'Flaherty seems to play as an orthodox centre back (holding the centre around the D) with Brian Flanagan (if he starts) picking up the opposition half-forward when he moves away from the forty. Hugh Lynch also spends most of his time sweeping behind the half-back line. Kildare will have some sort of plan for Brogan for certain but I'd worry that it might compromise our own game plan. Kildare's main threat this year has been the half-back line breaking from deep and creating overlaps. If we can't get Bolton, White, Doyle and Callaghan running at the Dublin backs we've no hope.

I've given up commenting on the team Kildare announce for the programme because nine times out of ten McGeeney has changed it before the throw in. Needless to say I'd be surprised if Tomás starts on the edge of the square.
There's Seán Brady going in, what dya think Seán?

Agree with him re O'Gara and the FF line. Fairly spot on as well re Doyle as well I reckon. He speaks as he played, straight up and honest and no bull

It was a good assessment and to be honest from a Kildare perspective I'd love to see O'Gara play as I think Foley has the physicality to match him.  If they pick him I'd say they'll be trying to isolate himself and BB inside, I'd be happy with that as I think McGrillen and Foley have the physicality to match them.

All smoke and mirrors at this stage, not a chance that Kildare team will start.

dunno , i'd  have thought McGrillen is a bit suspect in his role in the kildare team - he seems to play best when attacking from the FB line which he did a lot last year and tried to do a couple of times v meath.
If he is asked to play a more orthodox marking role, then imo that affects the balance and effectiveness of the kildares attacking options.
I was farily confident that dublin would win this, but with MD McAuley now an injury worry, I think it will be v close with a lot depending on whether Dublin have enough attacking options.
they are still a good bit off last years form, so kildare could catch them out on sunday - much like I think Donegal could do to Tyrone as the red arses wont look to be peaking for another two months yet.

I dunno LB, McGrillen has really grown into the role, he is however suspect when the forward gets in front of him to win the ball, he always seem slow to react in that situation and can give too much space, which would be criminal against Brogan. But he has got better at reading those balls coming in and often will get a hand or some part of his body in the way and doesn't foul a whole lot.

I think with the injuries clearing up for Kildare and conversely for Dublin, we could be in for a shock, all we need now is the moon to be in line wiith Venus, Jupiter and Mars (what a full forward line that would be) and we're sorted.

there'll be no time in growing into anything now on sunday, I liked him going forward, but wouldnt be so sure about him if isolated as a man maker in a two man FB line (not many defenders can defend against this imo).
From a flourbag perspective, while they may have kicked loads of wides it is a good sign that the forwards are confident at shooting and you have to make chances to score- and kildare are doing that. But a good few of these are bad shot selection and maybe under duress- still thats way better than playing the old Derry/Donegal way of harlem globetrottering about the pitch and never threatening the goalpoats due to neglection of shooting !
While kildare are still not in the same form they hit last year, they may be able to stifle Dublin with defensive tactics (which kildare have not used this year yet also) as the Dubs are still a good bit off and a couple of games away from top form.imo.
where are you going before/after the game?

The auld pundit and journalist watch is all over the Dubs to win this so far with no one tipping Kildare bar the Hoganstand

Paul Curran - got the impression he only went Dublin because well he's a Dub but good analysis of the game..
Paul Bealin - worst analyst this week..
Johnny Magee - see Paul Curran
Liam Hayes - made a good case for Kildare but not enough A forwards (95% of inter-county forwards are B or C class) - very good on the radio by the way (Newstalk, where else) - analyst of the week..
David Brady- actually made a valid point that Kildare don't score goals, very true, and thinks that will be our achilles heal
Cian Murphy - focused on Kildare wide tally blah! blah!
Hoganstand - felt Dublin's concentration levels could be there achillles hill and Kildare can punish them

Well the lad on RTE (James McMahon from Sunday Game) tipped the Lilywhites

DUBLIN (SFC v Kildare)

1. Stephen Cluxton
2. Paul Conlon
3. Rory O'Carroll
4. Michael Fitzsimons
5. James McCarthy
6. Ger Brennan
7. Kevin Nolan
8. Denis Bastick
9. Michael Darragh Macauley
10. Paul Flynn
11. Alan Brogan
12. Bryan Cullen (Captain)
13. Diarmuid Connolly
14. Eoghan O'Gara
15. Bernard Brogan

From a Kildare point of view I'd be happy enough if that Dublin team lined out. O'Gara is the kind of player that should suit Mick Foley. He's always acquitted himself well when marking bigger men like Joe Sheridan, Michael Murphy and Donie Kingston. Very surprised that either Barry Cahill or David Henry aren't playing with a view to counteract Johnny. Surely McAuley won't mark him if he's carrying a knock? I'm sure Kildare will be looking to test out the young corner back early on.
