I read with some interest that peter the great has started a 13 a-side movement and that martin mchugh and now Benny coulter are new recruits. maybe they might want to split like rugby and rugby league. "coulters voice falls on deaf ears"
" the gaa have an infatuation with the AFL. And when bbcs john inverdale came over to see the paddys at play the gaa fawned all over him. lets hope someone in croke pk tuned into the words of benny coulter this week when downs star forward admitted that he wouldn't be bothered paying into watch matches these days because of the quality of the football on offer. coming from one of the brightest talents we have, thats quite a damming statement. coulter also thinks that its high time the game was cut to 13 a-side in an effort to make the game more free flowing. in doing so he adds his voice to that of Tyrone's peter canavan and donegals martin mchugh. so you'd think their words would carry weight in croke park.
maybe if they worked for the bbc they'd have a fighting chance at least" THE STAR sunday 13th of June.

2 points the STAR missed martin mc hugh and peter canavan DO WORK FOR THE BBC!
The gaa is a democratic assoc. so if peter martin and Benny want these changes they should pay membership, join a club, make a proposal at a club meeting, if approved, bring it to their respective county boards, if approved, bring it to congress. how hard can it be?
would you like to join the 13 a-side gaa fan club? contact peteratsport.sunday@thestar.ie ;)

When I hear the words "free flowing" I reach for my revolver. Thankfully, they weren't followed by "attractive", so I put it back in the holster.

Maybe we should make the goals bigger too.

Corner backs should have to tie their boots together for the first half and wing half backs should have to do the same in the 2nd half.

put-it-up

Ah sure cut numbers, make the field bigger, make the goals bigger and sure tell keeper's they are not allowed used their hands either - that will help more goals to be scored.

Seriously like, Benny is saying he wouldn't pay in to watch it. The fact is, the GAA can change all the rules they want but the only people that can stop the defensive mind-set are the player's and management. Why doesn't Benny tell his manager he thinks Down could do better by playing better football or even tell his club manager and get the ball rolling. I'm sure his voice would be listened to at club-level.

Team's adopted the 'northern game', forgive the stereo-type because Armagh and Tyrone had success with it. If a team came along with a new-style of play that swept everyone aside, I am sure plenty of other teams would be willing to try copy it. It is just gona take somone with a massive pair of liathroidi to try a different approach rather than safety first.

I'd even go a step further and just ban gaelic football.

If you ever listen to the anti-circus crowd you would hear them say that keeping animals in cages and teaching them tricks is unnatural. Likewise, man was not made to kick things. Its unnatural. We were made to run, throw spears, eat and shag.

Benny doesn't pay in to watch it now and it doesn't seem to have done much harm. Lucky enough for the GAA there will be other footballers in Down after Benny retires.

That's why the don't pick up with the foot in ladies football. Ladies are gatherers.

13 a side me hole. I had a hard enough job making teams at times when there were 15 spots up for grabs!

Maybe we should ban tackling or something to make things more "free-flowing". Give me strength.  ::)

13 a side would mean one thing only, that the emphasis on pace would increase above the need for core skills.
