I read somewhere that NK people are on average 6" shorter than south koreans. They were the same country 50yrs ago, it shows the difference in nutrition, the NKs live on close to starvation rations

Gunfire at the border....maybe going to kick off.

Isn't that a normal occurance there.

I don't think they normally shoot at each other.....hopefully it's nothing.

When i read about the differing conditions of how the troops are treated i wasn't thinking those bad ass, treated like shit N. koreans are going to kick ass, i was thinking they are going to surrender at the first opportunity to the S. koreans.

I don't for a minute believe they are brainwashed to love the leader for whom they will lay down their life etc, given half a chance they would defect in droves to the South, i know i would.

I think they are completely brain washed.  There was a documentary on a few months ago when journalists smuggled a North Korean into the South to meet her long lost sister.  The North Korean was brain washed to the extreme and would not stay in the south.  I think the BBC ran the programme.

If the Yanks and the Chinese get involved there is a good chance of nucleur war IMHO.

i don't think an armistice was ever signed after the last Korean war (coud be wrong!)

Never happen. Too much money to be made.

The only question mark over an inevitable victory by the south would be whether the north would use weapons of mass destruction. In a conventional war the functional country, the south would win easily. The north may have a million man army but obviously wouldn't be able to feed it for starters, get fuel for tanks or planes or transport troops around the country.

The answer is the south.

The South will win. The only way for a temporary technical victory for the North is if they did like Israel did against Egypt and make a premptive strike on all South Korean airbases and destroy the South Korean airforce and establishing air dominance with their inferior fighters. If the North destroys the Souths airbases and other countries do not intervene the North will make major inroads into destroying the Souths Navy and Army. The Souths superior Navy, Army and Air Defences will kick in and the South will use remaing missile sites and Navy assets to bomb Northern Armed Forces, Navy and target Airbases. This willl lead to another draw and we are back where we started.

Of course if the North fails to destroy Southern air assets or if there is foreign intervention, its good night Eilean North Korea.

No one wins.  Yet another example of Johnny Foreigner screwing up another nation.

I live and work in S Korea. My job involves working on US military bases here. There are about 38000 troops on the ground here. There's a huge Airforce base about 30 miles south of Seoul and a big Army base up near the DMZ and several smaller bases too.The North wouldn't have a hope, even if it were a preemptive strike.US (and S Korea jets) would be in the air in literally minutes. The US also have a huge military presence in nearby Japan to help them out.It would be over in days.

Just like in Iraq then.  ::)

don't forget johnny Red is just over the border in the North and I can't see the Americans getting involved until Beijing shows its hand.

I went up to the DMZ one time. The guide was from the SK army.

He was full of shite about how the SK Army is world class and SK this and SK that and then he told me that
people in NK are brainwashed.

Soldiers are morons everywhere.

Only if China stood idly by. And perhaps not before Seoul was nuked.

If NK had a large scale, unprovoked attack on the south, do you really think China would come blindly steaming in behind them?

seafoid

The NK regime are not stupid. They are very similar to Fianna Fail. They are interested in power and the retention of power.
So a full scale attack on SK is a non-runner IMO since it would result in the end of the NK regime.
