Weekend hosts NUI Maynooth caused the shock of the 2010 Ulster Bank Sigerson Cup so far with a two-point win over UUJ, while DCU, UCC and Athlone IT also advanced to the last four following today's quarter-final action.........................................

Sure Maynooth is lovely all year round  ;)

Managed to pilfer some 11/2 about NUIM from the local bookie this morning. Happy days!

Anyone got any word on today's Trench Cup matches or the British Championships last week?

Napier won the british title
will to win is important the will to prepare to win is vital

Heard this morning that Trinity beat St Patrick's Drumcondra by 4 points and WIT beat UU Colraine.

Means semi finals look something like this

Trinity College Dublin v Napier, Edinburgh

Waterford IT v Limerick IT/ Tralee IT

Is it a sign of the times that past winners of the Sigerson are playing in the Trench Cup?  How does it work and go Napier.  Hell of a commute.

DH,

Any Kildare lads involved with Maynooth?

British champions get into the semis automatically. Think the British championships were last weekend. There are some very good players in England, the Liverpool and Manchester Universities would be very strong usually, they'd get a lot of northern students going over.

Maynooth beating Jordanstown yesterday goes to show that the gap between division 1 and division 2 isn't as great as you may imagine. (That's not to say that there isn't gap.)The effort alot of the Trench teams would put into their preparations would be on a par with that of the Sigerson teams, though Sigerson teams have a higher calibre footballer.

There are still some very good footballers in the Trench. Trinity at the minute have a couple of inter- county players, Ger Cafferkey the Mayo full back being the most notable. Should be an interesting weekends football.

Not that I know of at the moment Dinny apart from a few locals on the panel. I think Shaun Fahy is gone from there. McGrillen was there a year or two ago but he didn't play Sigerson till he went to DCU this year. Young Brophy from Celbridge is there as well but I think he is injured at the moment.

Edit: Just seen the team in the paper just now - Connolly from Larries started in goal and Kinahan from Athy was full-back.

Sigerson Cup this weekend

Was in paddy powers yesterday and saw they are giving money back on all losing bets if any of the matches finish a draw after 60 minutes.
Match Betting
13/8 Athlone 15/2 UCC 4/7
1/6 DCU 9/1 NUI Maynooth 9/2

Outright

1/2 DCU
11/4 UCC
6/1 Athlone IT
10/1 NUI Maynooth

Any good bets here?

UCC are the value, for what its worth

Was actually looking at Athlone IT to cause an upset, with the money back on the draw it looks tempting. But cheers anyway
