I would be stunned if this type of behaviour is an isolated incident. I know a fella that couldn't get a few sites passed to build on so he got elected to local council with the sole intention of getting those sites passed and he succeeded.

Now that shows a serious sense of initiative minder  ;)

Spotlight last night? I thought it was You've Been Framed!
I find the whole thing very funny.
Shows the true morals the Robinsons seem to "elevate" themselves too.  I wonder would Iris refer to herself as an abomination?

As for the money and underhand procuring of cash and property....I'd imagine that's a regular thing with policticians in all parties and maybe why there's not much sticking the knife in from them today.
That cub she had the affair with must be having a right laugh at it all. All that cash handed over to him, making a good living since, probably a few quid for his spotlight interview AND a go at Iris (well maybe that's what the cost of his good fortune was).
I've no sympathy for them, or indeed for any of the politicians. As the saying goes, you reap what you sew!

That's about the height of it.

I have no doubt that each and every one of them is/has been involved in some sort of shady dealings...

But the roidin gives this one an extra dimension...

At least this will spell the end for iris in the strangford constituency, hopefully it'll be retaken by the UUP, its always been a source of chagrin for me to have the DUP in the seat rather than the more moderate UUP.

Don't know how moderate the UUP have been in the past when they held sway!!

The DUP's second in command in the borough is a numpty with 'a special interest in housing and planning issues' and that's according to his link on the Ards council web site. He used to chair the planning board as I've received letters in relation to planning applications with his signature on it but I see he's not any more.

TBH I fail to see the requirement for councillors to have any say in planning matters as the relevent planning departments do all the work and the councils are supposed to just rubber stamp the decisions already made, but there does seem to be a bit more to the relationship than that which leads to allegations of favouritism, backhanders and the likes.

Lads could I just urge the utmost caution with regards to posts on this forum topic. The board has been referenced on Slugger and possibly other sites and we no doubt now have many prying eyes!

It was referenced on Twitter last night too, under the #irisrobinson thrend

I don't believe for one second that all politicians are on the take. However I think that some are and I feel they should find the full force of the law if they are found guilty of misconduct no mater what party they represent.

Is the Spotlight programme available on the BBC iPlayer?

Quality entertainment, the facebook page for the Cafe is great reading:

"Public money wasted on 2 kiddies opening up a cheese toasty bar. The menu is actually ridiculous. BTW how many hands tall is Iris?"

"There are some things money can't buy. For everything else, there's ridin' Iris Robinson."

and this gem.

"Hi Kirk
My mother's in her 90s.
Do you fancy at go?"

These comments were just a tiny section of the whole shebag.

Haven't the time to read through the whole thread at the minute but with this coming out, the investigation into Jeffrey's expenses that will hit the news shortly and the general incompetence of the rest of the members of the DUP the reality is that there will be a massive split in the unionist vote in the next election.  With the shit going on around Adams as well SF will be under pressure too.  It is a shame that the moderates on both sides are so useless that they don't offer a true alternative.  I may look at our decision to move back to the north again :-\

Thought you were made of sterner stuff than that BC.
