Il be honest,i had the horn when i was watching some of the ladies games last night,i thought some of the women on show were lovely  :-*

Also thought the Cork/Dublin teams displayed some terrific skills
id say that Cork team would give it tight to some Junior C and D club teams around the country.

Do you play Rois?

When I have time to make the training sessions, yes.
Well then you are probably more qualified to comment than anyone else. What's your take on the standard? Is enough work being done at grass roots to promote the Ladies game?

I think it is good that woman are active in the GAA. Some of the comments are from the dark ages and some are pure wind up material. Full participation from all of society is important Men, Women, Children and people with disabilities. Puts the GAA in the 21st century.

Don't forget the blecks

Thats funny.

Womens football isnt the worst sport to watch by far, although I agree that the standard of the goal keeping isnt the best.
Out of curiosity, do they play with size 5s or 4s?

Womens basketball, now thats a poor spectator sport.

Ladies football is terrible end of. Fair play to them for putting in the effort and all, but lets face it, its sheeee-ite!!

space rabbit

They should take the crossbar down for womens games.

Wouldnt be a big fan of ladies football but caught a bit of it yesterday and it was alright. 20,000 is some crowd for a ladies game, how many would they get at an FAI cup final? Also judging by this artice on hoganstand there must be a bit of interest in it:

The TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Football Finals have once again proven to be an audience winner. TG4 was the most popular channel in Ireland during its live coverage of the 2009 finals yesterday, with viewing share well ahead of its nearest challenger during the finals period.

The Senior Final between Cork and Dublin was watched by one in four television viewers in Ireland yesterday afternoon. It had an average of 169,000 viewers throughout the match, peaking at 230,000. This makes it TG4's third most popular programme of 2009 to date, behind only the live coverage of the Allianz Hurling and Football finals and on a par with the AIB Club Football Final. Overall coverage of yesterday's three ladies finals had a reach of 466,000 viewers (Source: AGB Nielsen Media Research, the official measure for tv audience in Ireland).

The finals were also once again broadcast live on www.tg4.tv TG4's award winning broadband service. The webcast of this year's finals drew thousands of viewers from all over the world, notably from Europe, Asia and North America.

Commenting on these viewing figures, TG4 Ceannasaí, Pól Ó Gallchóir, said that he was delighted at this latest confirmation of the continuing growth of TG4 audience. "Coming at the end of the first full week of our new Autumn 2009 schedule, these audience figures are very welcome and represent the most tangible measure of success for us," he said. "High profile Irish sports events are always very popular with our audience and, given our dual role as competition sponsor and tv rights holder of the Ladies Football Championships, we are especially proud of yesterday's achievement."

They were expecting 30,000 and needed that number to break even as they had to pay €100k to the GAA for use of Croke Park.
"When it's too tough for them, it's just right for us"

The Question is..... What is the Question?

Tony Baloney

They would need to make the goals the size of ice hockey nets for some of the goalies on display. Anywhere inside the 40 is fair game for a goal shot in ladies football.

The title of this thread should be changed. No need for that carry on about Mucksavages. Catch yourself on.

I only saw the highlights of the Antrim match tonight but I listened to the Cork/Dublin game on the wireless on my way home from a match in Armagh. It sounded like a really exciting game.

Those ladies put a huge effort into their game and they deserve recognition for that. The standard has improved dramatically in recent years due to good coaching and better training.

Have to agree about the goalkeeping though. A real weakness. Are they not allowed to dive?

Their diddies must get in the way.

Our Ladies club at home are a credit to themselves and to the club with the way they run their part of the club and with the amount of interest they generate. As many national school girls play with our ladies as national school boys play with the men's club. The game is very popular and still growing. The standard might not be brilliant all the time but some of the games can be excellent too.

I defy anyone to watch Mayo's Cora Staunton play and not admire her ability. Valerie Mulcahy (the Cork free-taker) the same.

Can the clown that started this thread change the name and grow-up?
Mayo for Sam! Just don't ask me for a year

jaysus Puck, I gave up basketball and started playing football  :D

We play with size 4s.

I helped organise an U8 and U10 blitz in the club on Sat and it was great seeing the excitement on the faces of the young 'uns.  Trying their absolute level best. The GAA has great values to instill in kids that age and it shouldn't be restricted to boys.

The Aristocrat

Funniest thing about this thread is the Northern Lads saying that the Ladies football was terrible.

How ironic.
