Football is Boring? Red Hands turn to white flags.

Yesterday was another boring basketball affair, predictable and sleep inducing.  The only ones that got it wrong were RTE when they said ONE of the Tyrone players was sick and couldn't play.  Not alone was all the Tyrone team sick and couldn't play but the ref was a complete hospital case or at least would have qualified as being one were he reffing a club game in Wicklow or Laois.

Cork tried in vain to wake up the Tyrone men, in one instance a Cork player, Miskella, came up with a novel idea of doing thiis by walking up and, from behind, hitting a Tyrone player a good box in the head which not alone failed to awake him but put him to sleep altogether.  His friends who used to be renowned for their fierce tackling all stood around with their hands on their hips and from lip reading their reaction was something like "my god old boy, did you see that, he's just hit him on the head" but did nothing.  Taking out the number of frees and the number of times the ball was thrown over the bar as opposed to being kicked over it I was more than thankful to be in a place where I could celebrate the life of a man called Arthur albeit having to do so akin to a black man in Alabama having been the only one shouting for Tyrone against a clubhouse full of overnight Cork supporters.

This was another game of football at its worst and another reason why games like this should be banned during the tourist season, I mean you can't have tourists sitting in a pub watching a "galic football match" and asking "Why did he get sent off, he got a red card and sent off but he only accidently glanced off his opponent?" and you tell him - "well he tackled after the ball was gone"   Then, five minutes later, same tourist, same question, "hey man, look, he went up and hit his opponent a box in the head and not alone was the ball gone, it was never there at all, why is he not sent home?"  Jeeezus...

After Dublin against Kerry, yesterdays game, Roscommon, Westmeath - in fact the entire football championship has been a disgrace, a non-event.  At least the Laois boys had the sense to pack up early and head of on the drink.  Next week should see Croke Park packed to the rafters to watch Meath and Kerry.  Let the hype begin but before it does will anyone tell me that it is reasonable and fair for somone to post a thread on the hurling section titled "Hurling is Boring" which to me insinuates that football is exciting. It is in me arse exciting, the entire championship has been a failure.

I know your fishing but I'll bite. The reason the Hurling championship was questioned was it's very predictable nature . Something which couldn't be said about yesterday or the Football championship in general
Anyway, long story short... is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling.

Very predictable nature.....
If before the championship started one was to list out the top 3 teams in the country. Would you agree that if those 3 teams all made the semi finals then a championship is "predictable"?

Again hardly predictable a educated guess , how many would of had Dublin or Galway  in there top 3 or too look at it from the the other side how many would of had Meath?

Agree. Think that this championship was a bit of a damp squib.

To be honest I would be in total favour of a revamp of the AI series. Even if it meant losing the provincial championships.

If you have nothing nice to type, type it anyway but be prepared for the on slaught

Is it time for a champions league style format?

Or something like the hurling championship with 2/3 tiers?

Can't agree there. As usual, the championship started off slowly, and, with the exception of the Tyrone - Kildare quarter final, the closing stages have been disappointing but there were numerous good games throughout June and July. In my eyes, this has been one of the best championships in recent years .

Not at all. Unlike Hurling, almost all football counties can cause a big upset on any given day.

from now to march the champions league will be a long drawn out bore with the quarter finalists obvious now... world cup soccer and rugby is the same in the group stages.. loads of one sided dull games until weak teams are eliminated.

Yeah. But what were the upsets?

Would love to see a revamp of the championship. I think that the football championship is a bit boring and its nearly always the same teams playing each other, with only the odd very good game. The provincial championships are unfair and totally unbalanced, with teams from the north and leinster having to do way more to win an all ireland than say the teams from munster and connacht, which is a bit daft really.

I think a champions league format, with say 8 groups of 4 teams, would be a great idea and gives the chance for teams that very rarely meet in the championship the chance to play each other. A home and away basis would also add excitment to the games and give the weaker teams a chance against the big boys. Surely it would freshen up the championship anyway...

What's this special congress in October for ? To introduce a champions league style AI championship ?
