Quote from: paddyjohn on June 14, 2025, 03:03:30 PMFantastic Darragh Cup final last night. That particular Cushendall squad seems to keep rolling on and Loughiel had 6/7 real good performances, their No 11 Oisin Connolly was superb.
Have to say how good Skinny was in the middle, kept a tight eye but he was helped by 2 teams who never put a stick outta place.

The Darragh Cup this last number of years has become a really big fixture at Minor level in North Antrim. Theres always big crowds in attendance in Cushendall for the final and its seen a mix of teams win it at stages - Dunloy, Oisins, Loughgiel etc.

Its great to see for the Darragh family that Johns memory lives strong for the clubs as Malachy presents the trophy to the winning captain each year.

Also it was 11 years from the last time Cushendall won it which i couldnt believe.

How long will it be to the next time?

Great competition and good final this year.

They could add a couple the next few years. Had a few great Feile teams that won a couple in a row so unless they've been caught up on, they'll win a few but it gets interesting after that with low numbers and even the amalgamation team coming after that.

Only 1 up 1 down - no playoff is what I've heard?

In which case ballygalget on 6 cant believe caught by ballycran on 1

Ballycran need to beat both Portaferry and St Endas to stay up

St Endas need to win 1 game to stay up (or balycran failing to win both)

Thats how i see it?

There's three games left for everyone, so we most definitely can be caught.

Ballycran will need to win all theirs starting with Portaferry and with their last game ending in a bit of argy-bargy the Ports may want to be putting down a marker for later in the year.

Couldn't believe that stat myself. Fantastic competition. Always thought it should be played on Feis weekend.

Hard to do that with most teams relying on u16 players to top up their teams.
McMullan cup been a Feis weekend staple as long as I can remember.

I think the most impressive thing is the esteem with which this competition holds.
Many clubs have tried to remember some really great gaels and not succeeded in doing so to the level those gaels deserved.
I have heard of clubs who have introduced blitzes and offered trophies for wider county or divisional competitions that fell by the wayside. In some ways disappointing to push so early (and in some senses a bit naively) to remember a Gael and see it only last a few years.

It wouldnt work due to the McMullan Cup being on the sunday. Also the calender is full the whole weekend at Feis from the Friday night to the sunday with the Senior hurling final.

The Darragh Cup is deserving of its own date in the calender each year in Cushendall.

The good thing about the competition is that it provides clubs with a good gauge to see where they are in terms of winning the County championship this last number of years.

The clubs have all their county players available for the competition so you get very competitive games in the finals.

To be fair the McMullan cup also holds a high level of prestige for the North Antrim clubs to win it. I managed to play in two finals and win it once a long time ago  ;D when it was held in Carey.

For sure it does though it cant be helped if the camogie teams don't turn out for their allotted fixtures this past few years.

Crans failed to beat Portaferry tonight so go down which is as well for us as we were pure dung against a much better St Endas team.

The last two rounds of games are meaningless but holy jesus if we continue to be as shit it'll be a dire championship later...

They were poor tonight in fairness. I dont like these boardroom promotions/relegation so I think they need to go down and rebuild. By all accounts they've great numbers and some good hurlers coming through so im sure they'll bounce back.
