Quote from: Saffron71 on December 01, 2025, 01:09:16 PMWhat clubs at Division 2/Intermediate would you say should be dropping down to Junior?  We don't have a great record at Junior.  Only 5 clubs over 20 years have won it and since Lamh Dhearg were the last Antrim club to win it in 2016 we've only had two clubs reach the final (Cushendun in 2018 and Glenarm in 2022).  Other counties grading definitely has an impact on this too.  IMO in Derry the 5 clubs outside of slaughneill, Coleraine and Na Magha are all of similar standard and on any given day could beat each other.  So realistically you've 5 clubs who could either find themselves reaching a Derry SHC final or winning a Derry JHC and having a shot at an Ulster.

TBH I think at Junior level we're probably doing the thing right while other counties, Donegal in particular, are taking the piss. Glenarm lost to Setanta in 2022 who went on to win Intermediate in 2023. They didn't win Donegal in 2024, losing in that final to 2025 Ulster Junior champions, Burt...

Hectic

Senior level is where the measure is.  If you win an All Ireland or indeed and Ulster senior title you are the best out there.

When you move down through the grades it's more of a novelty than anything else given the criteria for entry seems to bounce all over the place and too often titles are won by teams 'playing down'.

Even Coleraine over the last few years have been able to beat anyone (lynch's and slaughtneil aside) when they have all their footballers playing. However they do seem to have gone a good bit backwards

Oisins done a number on their management going by screenshots I was sent!

Saffron71

Haven't seen any screenshots but from what I've heard it's been player driven which is disappointing given what the management team achieved this season.

Good men who by all accounts take nothing from the clubs they are with and in fact give back to them. They deserved to be treated better

+1 This no way to behave, I am surprised the committee didn't head this off especially given the circumstances. By all means review the season and learn from mistakes.
Some players really can be a self entitled bunch of cnuts and are the root of the problem imo.

Depends if some of the committee knew about the meeting or not. 🤔

Timing makes the whole thing worse given the circumstances

FYI.

The Donegal Hurling champions always played in the Ulster Junior. Setanta beat Glenarm in the Ulster Junior Final in 2022 or maybe that should be that Glenarm helped to beat themselves.

The following year Setanta won Donegal again and were graded as Donegal's Ulster Intermediate representatives having won the Junior the previous year.

They won the Ulster Intermediate in 2023 and having won Donegal in 2025 they had to play in the Ulster Senior this year.

As Setanta are this year's Donegal champions and graded to represent Donegal in the Ulster Senior Championship, St Eunans as runners up entered the Ulster Intermediate.

Letterkenny Gaels won the Donegal Junior Hurling Final having defeated Burt's second string in the final.

Letterkenny Gaels decided not to represent Donegal in the Ulster Junior so the county decided to have a play off between the beaten semi finalists, Burt and MacCumhaills, to decide Donegal's Ulster Junior representatives.

MacCumhaills decided not to enter in order to concentrate on the Donegal Senior Football Championship so Burt were selected to represent Donegal in this year's Ulster Junior.

So the 3rd best team in Donegal entered the junior championship, like i said, taking the piss.
