Anyone tried Katla on Netflix. Icelandic show. Have done about 6 episodes so far a bit like that french show the Returned / Les Revenants. Enjoying it.

It all hinges on that shopkeeper who retracted her statement.

She was the one who came forward in the first place, she stood by her statement for years, complaining, on camera, about him threatening her.

Then she suddenly turns around and retracts it, claiming there was no intimidation whatsoever?

Bailey might not have been convicted, but surely there was enough grounds there to put him on trial in Ireland, at least before she retracted her statement?

She was meeting a man (not her husband or Bailey) at the bridge location. Supposedly the Gardai threatened to go to her husband & let him know about her meeting a man late at night, if she didn't put Bailey near the murder scene. They had it in for Bailey & possibly were keen/ corrupt in adding some real evidence instead of purely circumstantial.

I did not know the allegation about the Gardai threatening her. In the Netflix doc, the head cop (can't remember his name) was adamant that SHE came to them with the info. It was also claimed earlier in the show that she tried to do so anonymously at first.

Haven't seen the Sheridan doc yet (which I understand Bailey participated in more than the Netflix one). Not sure if its available over here in the states, but will check it out if so.

The thing is the investigation hung its hat on her evidence which she later retracted , strangely her new sensational evidence was declared unsound  while her original. evidence was still held in high esteem. Add to that, the evidence of the witness (drug cases outstanding) who claimed he was forced to give evidence incriminating Bailey which he  soon retracted. The Gardai tried to fix the case against Bailey and the head garda literally  stated on the Sheridan doc that those methods were justified because nobody ever walks in and offers 100%  sound eye witness evidence.
The entire garda investigation into Bailey then becomes toxic.

I really enjoyed the Clarkson show. I don't know how he could be bothered starting to farm at his age. The Amazon deal must have paid well!

There was a lot strange about him and the whole case. Either he was guilty or he was mentally disturbed enough to put himself in the story front and centre.

I have really enjoyed watching Bosch on Prime, started season 7 this week. Excellent show.

I tend to agree. I really felt for the woman's family in the whole thing and that bollox walking round milking the story didn't help anything. If anything he got in the way of the investigation.

Household member/ close contact has tested positive on PCR. This was after 4 lateral flows across 2 days, only 1 of which was positive.

The Sky and Netflix documentaries both seemed fair and impartial if you just watched one, but having watched both I realised they are both biased (Sky/Sheridan for Bailey and Netflix against Bailey). Not hugely biased, just enough to persuade the viewer to lean one way or the other.

The main difference was the Marie Farrell testimony. With Sky, they very much implied the first statement was the lie and the retraction was the truth. Netflix the exact opposite.

Personally I believed Marie Farrell on Sky when she said she was bullied by the cops. She initially said the guy standing across from the shop trailling Sophie was 5'8 and the guards made her change the story. Bailey is 6'2 or 6'3 and couldn't really be mistaken for 5'8. Also the location (the bridge) where Farrell spotted the person on the night, was the opposite direction to where Bailey would have been if travelling from Sophie's to his own house.

The burning of the clothes is a big piece of circumstantial evidence against Bailey. It was dealt with very quickly on Sky, with Bailey saying that it happened at least a week prior to the murder. Whereas Netflix had an eye witness say it happened the day after.

The cops never finding the other passenger in Marie Farrell's car, and in particular, not taking photos of Bailey's injuries/scratches (they drew a picture!) was bordering on unbelievable, even though it's clearly factual!

Netflix (and the French courts) treating as truth the statement from Sophie's friend saying that in the lead up to the French trial, 24 years after the murder, that she suddenly remembered that Sophie called her the day before the murder and expressed concern about an English poet, was the biggest piece of nonsense of either show.

Bailey definitely slimebag, even if he didnt do it. The main guard is a slimebag too! And Sophie's hubby! Sophie's parents and son went through absolute hell and dealt with things with pure dignity. They are the three I have most sympathy with.
