To call it a vanity project is an absolute insult to the families of people who have been killed on that road. Disgusting.

Totally agree, a disgraceful term to use.

Although it doesn't surprise me,  arrogant people.

Btw, who are they and what size is there group - 5, 20 or 50 etc.? Anybody know?

Hopefully this road gets buit asap.

I note that a part of their alternative solution is for more overtaking lanes on the existing road.

Overtaking lanes are part of the problem. All the speedsters doing 85mph to get past before it ends in 400m with the lorry and bus to the left of them and oncoming traffic a few feet away on the right. And often these lanes are on a hill and going round bends.

Madness.

Why do journalists keep allowing them to hide behind the group name? You can't publish a quote as offensive as that & not name the individual who came out with it!

My thoughts exactly

Exactly that.  Journalists need to stop entertaining these pricks until they reveal who they are.  Although I'm sure their identities are fairly well known in local circles.

Well if they are known, why are they not being outted. Especially if they are part of the crowd who have already taken money.

Never was a fan of those. All it takes is someone coming the opposite way who thinks the overtaking lane is for them to use.

I have seen that happen regularly on that stretch from Ballygawley to Omagh.

Does look it will move forward.  Now don't go all keyboard warrior on me could they not put like a toll on it like the M1 to Dublin to get a private contractor to build it and then pass the road back after 30 years or so.

Of course they could. Specifically, they could have built a new bridge over the Foyle near the old railway bridge and run it on the west bank. But it is the King's Highway you know, you have to be able to march on it and certainly not pay a toll.

Did I read somewhere that they are to start at the Strabane side? Surely they should start at the Ballygawley Roundabout as nearest to it seems to be the most lethal part?

You'd think they'd start at several places at once.

It's not as if they don't know to the metre where the road will be going before the diggers move in.

The general rule of thumb is you get the offline parts done first then work in the crossings and tie ins as you progress and you've somewhere to divert traffic on to. I haven't saw the full plans so I'm not sure where the route goes exactly. There could be environmental restrictions to make them start in a certain area first too.

It'll be great to see it started.
