And like the kids at Tesco they have no choice but to accept this, people talk about groups like Freemasons, Knights etc as if they are little tea and sandwich groups yet these are exactly the kind of 'institutions' (apt) that perpetuate the hatred and sectarianism against all things Nationalist in the 6 counties still.
How do the Freemasons perpetuate hatred and sectarianism?

Roger, have you an opinion about the topic being discussed maybe?
Tbc....

Sorry, you are right toger they are a great bunch of people.
I'm not sure if they are or they are not.  I just wondered how a global organisation of all religions perpetuates hatred and sectarianism in NI?

I'm not surprised by the issue or by the way it is being discussed.  The only bit of new thinking which I see it that the Freemasons and Knights (haven't a clue about them at all) are actually relevant or that they are accused of sectarian hatred.

it would be my opinion that most of their members in NI would be a bunch of pompous twats who would share the same warped views of the eminent Councillor watson.  What is your take on things in Tesco Antrim then?  I don't mean the 2 for 1 offers either.

illdecide

Watson's biggest problem with the GAA tops was they contained the colours Green and Yellow...WTF if i had turned up in my royal blue GAA top (my club colours) would he still complain...The mans just one biggoted B**tard and will never change till the day he dies (hopefully sooner rather than later)

Bit of a generalisation that stands little scrutiny.  I've never heard of sectarian hatred coming from the Freemasons and I'm not even sure who the Knights are.  Do you know?

I should reply on the thread about Masons as this thread is about the inherent bitter sectarianism that exists amongst a Unionist political representative.

But a quick google about the Irish freemasons shows what they themselves think how the public perceive them, so can we be blamed for thinking they are a bunch of twisted, moronic, bitter oul hoors?  But as you say you never heard of any sectarian hatred coming from the freemasons yet a few years ago their head honcho admitted that they are to be blamed for being viewed as sectarian.

Maybe if you get a chance you will give us your slant on the Tesco situation, again not the 3 Ragu's for a quid offer mind - good value though it is.

Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Ireland Eric Waller makes some incredible admissions in a speech made in Belfast on 30th October 2004, which he entitled: My vision for the future. This speech came after the RTE debacle, in which their intended PR exercise back-fired and ended up exposing the spurious nature of Freemasonry. In this oration, which was clearly designed to rally a wilting Masonic fraternity, he laments the sick condition that Irish Freemasonry finds itself in. He censures the Irish brethren on several fronts for their apathy, desperately trying to motivate this ageing body into action.

Waller bemoans the sorry state that Irish Freemasonry finds itself in today, admitting that the Masonic Lodge suffers from a dismal reputation amongst the general public throughout Ireland. Moreover, he blames the membership for this widespread perception. He concedes, "It is almost entirely our own fault that the public see us as sinister, secretive, sectarian and self-interested."

Roger

What sectarian hatred have you witnessed?

Are the Knights part of Freemasonry?

I thought I had.  Again.....I am not surprised by this and I am not surprised by some people on a GAA board's reaction either.

ziggysego

ok ok Roger, I agree with you. No call for the Knights and Freemasons to be mentioned here.

Now, back to the point in question. What do you feel about the complaints made by an Antrim UUP Counsellor against Tescos regarding the young children collecting for charity, whilst wearing their local GAA club's colours?

Come on Roger.....put some meat on the bones ffs.

Not being surprised says nothing about your opinions.....could you be more detailed in your analysis?

Katchit

I'm neither suprised nor shocked by these people protesting, some people inherit their imbecilonic views whilst many are brainwashed along the way.

This goes for both sides.

I have witnessed massive amounts of sectarian hatred over the years.

Where did I ever say they were mutually dependent? Or are you not sure yourself toger?  master of spin but full of shite as usual.

Fudge the issue as long as you want, my apologies though the Freemasons are a great bunch of people WHO DO NOT THINK THE PUBLIC VIEW THEM AS SECTARIAN HOORS - the head of the masons in Ireland thinks it is their fault we all view them as sectarian but you may choose to argue otherwise though.

In other news, Willie McCrea wins an Ivor Novello award for his latest ditty 'The people of Antrim are lovely and really like fen..sorry catholics'

Lets take this out of this thread now as this is about the pathetic sectarianism still prevalent amongst an elected rep.
