"we talked about it for 20 minutes then we decided i was right" legend!!!

Scheduled to coincide with the opening of the "Damned United", with the co-operation of his family. What he achieved with Derby and Forest will never happen again.

That Clough-Revie debate would have been worth seeing in full!  Never see the likes nowadays sadly.

Am I alone in hating the man?

T Fearon

Nostalgic memories of a great manager and a great era for football. In those days managers like Stein, Clough etc ruled the roost and would have booted any player who threw a strop up the arse, unlike to-day.

I loved the way Clough used to rip the piss out of Don Howe and the boring Arsenal team.

I always thought though that Peter Taylor never got full credit for his influence on Clough.

Very true Tone, he would not have had half the success without Taylor. They reckon his biggest regret until his dying day was falling out with Taylor.

A lot of Villa fans see traces of this same relationship now between O'Neill & Robertson.
As an aside, did anyone else think that his wife spoke very well?  He was obviously a man who kept her very much involved throughout his career, I couldn't imagine managers wives taking the same interest in their husbands careers nowadays.
This was a very well produced documentary, Giles came across very well actually, possibly because he saw it as a chance to get another dig at David Peace.
Kenny Burns is enjoying life anyway!!

why do you hate him and even though you hate him do you not think he was a great manager and a one off.

full back

Great show, well worth staying up to watch.

As Doogie says, thought the wife spoke very well & she seemed to have a brave knowledge of the going-ons at Clough's clubs.
Must have been a very turbulent relationship as well because Nigel said splitting up wasnt an option & they stuck it out in those days.

His 2 lads in the dugout with him shows just how much things have changed. Was that the game he was hammered 8/9 - 0?
He was laughing & joking with is boys, if this happened now there would be outrage in the media.

Anyone else think Brian was a bit 'camp' in his early years when speaking on the TV?

Good man, I will have a gleek at that tonight.  Such a debate would just never happen now.

As was said last night, a provincial club will never win the Champions League now or even the league championship, unless a Russian Oligarch takes over I suppose.
Can't wait to see the Damned United now.

Excellent programme , young man !

Really enjoyed it.
I hated clough and forest because they destroyed the liverpool team I loved at that stage.
(when liverpool had great TEAMS and great men to MANAGE these TEAMS unlike the Gerrard and Torres show farce they are these days)
Really hated robbo as he was destroyer in chief. Liked Oneill because he was Irish !

I was hoping that there would be more TV interview clips with Old Big Ead !
I recall some crackers eg on deriding the long ball game -where he says 'if football were meant to be played in clouds, we'd have all been 10 feet tall'
:D

he dismantled revie in that interview (the bit showed last night) in a nice way and had revie agreeing with him in the end.
Don prob wanted to punch his lights out.
Read cloughs book (one of them) a few years ago, as arrogant as maradona, but you have to love a genius like that !

He was a great manager, still don't like him though.

This quote did't sit well with me..

"I will always remain convinced that those Liverpool fans who died were killed by Liverpool people."
Brian Clough.

Also I think he was an arrogant gobshite of the highest order and a bully.
