How did the Americans get a foothold in the country down in Shannon?

"Davide Oneglia of TS Lombard points out that the effect on some of the smaller and more open European economies could be profound. Ireland in particular is dependent on pharma exports. By Oneglia's calculations, 25% US tariffs on all imports could cut Irish gross domestic product by 3.74%"

Am I reading that right, it's saying at c.4% of the Irish economy is comprised of pharmacy exports to USA, surely that can't be accurate.

Around €44bn of medical/pharma to U.S last year.

Where I grew up in south Donegal, the Abbott facility in Donegal Town was and is a significant employer.

And that's only direct employment. I have no doubt many of the big capital expansions will be put on ice pending outcome of this shit. That's many more people in design and construction of these plants.

Amgen sponsor Cuala and the Irish open
Abbvie sponsored Sligo (unsure if they still do)

4 or 5 of my largest Bay Area biotech/pharma clients have an Irish footprint. Often it's the manufacture of the pharmaceuticals themselves - sometimes it's just corporate offices

I've been on a few of the sites and there are billions tied up in manufacturing capability. There was well over a billion in capital spend announced last year across Tralee, Cruiserath, Limerick. I think the Limerick project alone was $1 billion.

The ESRI were on the radio this morning - Alan Barrett- and he said that the ESRI's best estimate of tariff damage was 3% of GDP. So if the economy is 100 post tariff it would be 97. I think the key issue is taxes post tariff.

Oh look, Trump and Musk are out defending Le Pen. I am so shocked.

I await the usual bunch of stupid c***ts on here who'll be calling her a political prisoner etc.
