If Trump wins, how long will it be before there's talk he deserves a 3rd term?? Constitutional matters don't really register in that camp I reckon.

I have a problem with no 3rd terms. US presidents are pretty much completely unaccountable during the 2nd term given that they're getting turfed out at the end of it anyway. Compared with prime ministers or Taoiseach who need majority support from their colleagues and always have an eye on the next election. As a result they're much more in tune with public opinion and the mid term consequences of their policy.

"In two days, we are going to take out the trash in Washington, DC, and the trash's name is Kamala Harris," JD Vance said. In Grand Rapids, Trump called Harris a "very low-IQ person" and a "radical left lunatic who destroyed San Francisco".

Although they often take a beating in the midterms and become a lame duck for final years because they lose either support of senate, congress or both, and can't get anything done. It's strange enough political system between electoral colleges and midterms

Not really. If their party don't control both houses, they can't do much. They usually want their party to win the next Presidency too, so I'd imagine they take that into consideration.

The problem is that Trump could not care less about the Republican party, only himself.

Hopefully this vote puts and end to him but I doubt it  >:(  It is ludicrous a man this insane is being looked at for the president of america.

It's crazy

The Democrats are that bad that Trump is actually a viable alternative

You've trotted out this line so many times now, but there's zero substance to it.

In any case, we survived Trump once before. No one died. We (well most of us, particularly the white rich straight bible thumpin gun totin folks) will survive him again should he take the winning post.

There are checks and balances on the powers of the executive branch. It's very hard for a single party to control all branches at the same time, although the system seems to have evolved into one that gives undue weight to the GOP. But during the darkest days of Trump's presidency, the institutions seemed to largely hold. It could have been a lot worse.

Trump has relied heavily on the super-rich, who accounted for about 34 per cent of the total haul, according to an FT analysis. Four donors — banking heir Timothy Mellon, casino developer Miriam Adelson, shipping magnate Richard Uihlein and Elon Musk — gave about $432mn.

I'd disagree

Letting 11 million people cross the border illegally and proposing a pathway to citizenship for them is as great a threat to our democracy as any hair brained scheme Trump could ever concoct

Well if Trump pulls out all aid to the Ukraine, you could have Russia rolling up on Poland in yrs to come.

Yes, in this, as in many other ways, Trump is unique.  Let's hope he doesn't get a second term.

Truman - Asshole
Eisenhower - Idiot
Kennedy - ??
LBJ - asshole
Nixon - asshole
Ford - idiot

Reagan - bit of both, not enough to be either
Bush Sr - ??
Clinton - asshole
Bush Jr - idiot
Obama - asshole
Trump - asshole
Biden - idiot
Surely Reagan is well in the asshole category.

Kennedy was a decent spud was he not
