club and underage county performances get you onto a county panel. Senior Intercounty performances get you your place on a team

francie would disagree!

Bit of a weird comment. Did Francie not play a lot of league football in 02? If so GAA's point would stand.

With a couple of our midfielders faultering and McKenna improving all the time, he has a real window here to nail down a starting berth. Hopefully he gets a couple of games on the trot.

Was extremely impressed wuth his showing there on Saturday, as I have in most of Cross' (is that right?) matches this year, definitely worth a go...

Would him and Vernon be too attack minded to work together you think?? I am thinking of the future before I get shouted at for ousting McGrane...

Certainly worth a look at ONL. Neither are shy about their defensive duties either so it has potential. I would not discount Toner either, he had a very good season last year. It will be interesting, McGrane will still be th man this year.

GrandMasterFlash

What's the story with McGrane, will he be out for long??

Ayh, the cross boys winning on sat will deplete the squad, but surely this is good in a county with the player base like Armagh?

Monaghan v Dublin tonight, that's a good test for the lads and probably a welcome break from sloggin it at training..  Tommy should be OK for the Armagh game if Dub don't bring any statisticians with them..  ::)

Armagh are playing Louth tonight at 8pm at Haggardstown ??? ??? Is that the Darvar? complex

This is south of Dublin on the old main road, a mile or so beyond the Fairways Hotel.

The point I am making is that Francie never played any County underage at all and was playing as well as any defender in the county when the 2 Brian's were there but was never given a chance.

If Cross did not have this year's success then I reckon that McKenna would have provided as serious option in the MF area.  I watched him on Saturday and he has become more aggressive in his drive towards the ball and this is what is needed.  He is a stronger presence in the middle sector and is a serious player with the ball in his hand.  I reckon he and Vernon would compliment each other as they both know how to work back.

I think McKenna may follow the McGrane path into the armagh team - a year of two at wing forward supplementing the midfeld before establishing himself as a primary ball winner when he fills out

naka

would love to see a half back line of kernan, vernon and mc keever, full back line of mallon, donaghy and mc keown,
middfield of mc kenna and mc grane, half forward line of mallon mc entee and toal with henderson in at corner forward with the other two guys, alas what are the chances of mc entee coming back

Wouldn't be a bad side naka..... but you'd need a keeper!

I was always under the impression he didn't want to play for the county, and it was JK who persuaded and got him on board when he took over? I maybe wrong, Ricey is another example, never played Tyrone underage football.

Ah right picked you up worng, did McKenna not play much ball for Armagh at underage? I know he did for the U21s , but did he for minors?

Just to say if any of the monaghan lads get to that friendly tonight against Dublin could they throw up a few words on it. Cheers.

I am not sure about that Fitz, I thik he may have been asked at one stage and never went and was never asked back.  Imagine what might have been if he had been there to to put pressure on bomb scare Reid in 1999!!!

Anyone got any word on a result for this one?

thebandit

Dublin beat Monaghan, good few changes on both sides.
