https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2025/12/07/liverpool-no-doubt-mohamed-salah-will-join-saudi-pro-league/There are "no doubts" that Mohamed Salah will play in the Saudi Pro League, a senior figure within the league has told Telegraph Sport.

Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad are understood to be the clubs most likely to sign Salah should he leave Liverpool.

Sources are unsure as to whether a deal can be struck for the January window, having suggested one was more likely next summer. But that may have changed after Salah's extraordinary outburst on Saturday evening, following Liverpool's 3-3 draw away to Leeds United when he was again on the substitutes' bench.

The SPL will now explore whether a deal can be agreed for next month and whether Salah is serious about leaving or whether it was just a show of frustration.

The SPL was not expecting Salah to make such a public statement of his discontent at Liverpool in which he accused the club of "throwing me under a bus" and talked of the breakdown of his relationship with Arne Slot.

One source likened it to the television interview that Cristiano Ronaldo gave to Piers Morgan in November 2022 when he claimed he had "no respect" for Erik ten Hag. The following month it was announced that Ronaldo was leaving United as a free agent and joined Saudi club Al-Nassr.

Given Salah signed a new deal at Liverpool last summer, having spoken to the SPL about a free transfer with his contract running out, it is highly unlikely that he will be allowed to leave without a significant fee being paid. The 33-year-old was subjected to a rejected £150m bid from Al-Ittihad in September 2023, although relations have remained positive between him and the SPL and with the Jeddah-based club, in particular.

They are the current champions, captained by Karim Benzema, and are now coached by Sergio Conceicao, having toppled Al-Hilal who are the other club thought to be most likely to sign Salah should he leave.

Al-Hilal's star names include Salah's former Liverpool team-mate Darwin Nunez and they are managed by former Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi.

"We are absolutely convinced that Mo Salah will come to Saudi. No doubts about it. We don't know if it will be January, in the next market, or next summer," a senior figure said.

Are they wrong?

Do you Salah is in the right with how he went about this?

I couldn't care less about a multi millionaire playing for an English team throwing a strop, funny though watching Irish GAA folk losing the run of themselves over it.  ;D

I follow most sport but my team is not in Engerland.

Brilliant!.. and true 🤣😅

What would be the thoughts on getting Semenyo in January if Salah does leave which seems inevitable? He started the season well but have went off the boil.  He would bring some much needed pace and directness into the team.

I am on a discussion board, I assume going forward I will only see you post on subjects you are fully invested in, I am sure you do that already yes? I am genuinely wondering how a man goes from hero to zero on "their" team because he feels a bit victimised and has the audacity to say so.

Probably because he has gone crying to the media because he's been dropped for playing shite? Not sure about the rest of you but when I played football if you weren't delivering you sat on the bench and the next man got his chanceand you just had to suck it up.

How entitled are these pricks?

At last a bit sense on the subject

And the lad that replaced him is pulling up trees?

Gakpo has been equally shíte, yet starts more often than not. And you could add quite a few to that list.

I'm not keen on entitlement based on previous performances and that was the crux of Salahs rant, I don't agree with him on that, but he was no worse than some others equally shíte, yet was the one singled out for benching and not to get a run on against Leeds was poor.

Don't follow it that closely to know whos playing well or not tbh, if Gakpo's been shite then get the next man in, same goes for anyone.

Perhaps not, but Salah had a deal whereby he was excused from the defensive side of the game in return for providing goals and assists. When he was providing those (along with Trent), the defensive weaknesses down that side of the field were considered a price worth paying.

Now Trent is gone, new players are in, and Salah still doesn't have to do the defensive work, but he's also offering very little in attack. It may be a loss of form on Salah's part, it may be the difficulty of knitting all these new players into a coherent attack that includes him, but whatever it is, he has not been worth his spot in the past month or two. He's missing chances he would have devoured in previous seasons, he's not effective against the low blocks Liverpool are constantly facing.

Gakpo may be not much better, and is failingg to bring Kerkez's strengths in attack in effect, but at least he's popping up here and there with a goal and an assist.

The one who should really be upset is Chiesa, but he never has a negative word in public.

I follow most sport but my team is not in Engerland.

So is it all foreign teams that are out of bounds, or just English ones specifically?

We need to know so we can make sure our GAA bona fides are not compromised.

Do you throw abuse at young lads who might be wearing a Liverpool or Man Utd top to football or hurling training?

It's been a few decades, but I remember quite a few English team jerseys during underage training at my club in Donegal. Maybe Donegal jerseys weren't as widely available then, but even if they had been, just about everyone on the squad was interested in English football and followed a team.
