So with the league just days away, what are peoples' feelings?  I am looking forward to this season moreso than I have for a number of years.  I don't expect miracles but I think the players are there to push Arsenal and Spuds for 4th.  The top 3 will be the Manc twins and Dynamo Chelski.  A good start against Sunderland will be important and hopefully this team will start

Reina

Kelly(if GJ is still out)  Carra  Agger  Aurelio

Lucas  Adam

Kuyt   Aqualani   Downing

Carroll

You then have a bench with Henderson, Suarez, Maxi, Spearing, Soto and Doni, which is pretty strong.

And just for Dinny,  I am not

Linked with Gary Cahill and Enrique at the moment. Would be very happy if we could land both of those before the end of the month although Cahill especially won't come cheap. Derfensively we definitely need reinforcements IMO if we want to get back into CL football.

On the upside Big Andrew Carroll has been scoring goals in pre-season. Downing has also looked good. Henderson I don't think they really know what to do with yet. Centre-mid is very crowded so he might be shifted out to the right but he's not really a natural wide man from what I can see. Adam has done OK from the small bit of pre-season I've seen. Suarez seemed in great form at the Copa America. Hope he's good to go after a few weeks off.

Nice pic, she's like a black Jan Molby.

For what it's worth I think Liverpool will probably take 4th spot as well. Spurs and Arsenal have remained stagnant or worse if Fabregas/Modric/Nasri leave while Liverpool's squad has improved, although I would question some signings and the lack of defensive cover, they have made enough good signings and have a good defensive coach in from the season start this year. They have a good foundation to build on.

I can see the Enrique deal going through but maybe not the Cahill deal. The only thing about the Cahill deal that may be in our favour is they would be willing to take part exchange for players or even the like of Shlevey or Wilson on loan. I think if it doesn't go through Scott Dann will join.

Hard to see much different than the team BC has named there. Not sure about Lucas as he has only played 45 mins but he looked good against Valencia. He can lead in the middle but I  think he may just go with Spearing who had a great game at the Stadium of Light 4 months ago. Aquilani - we will know if he is up to it or not after this game. If Meireles was fit he would surely start but I think we have nothing to lose by starting Aquilani and Suarez held in reserve. Henderson a wee bit raw to start against his former club. We need to protect him for now and dont want another Joe Cole like start to the season.

Sunderland are a slippery animal and I just hope that the mass turnover of players means they take some time to settle. We need to be after them from the beginning. Here's hoping we manage an early goal.

The Aquaman scores the winner for Italy against Spain tonight. On the other side - conflicting fortunes for two ex players - Xabi Alonso scored a penalty and Torres was taken off injured with a concussion.

Adam was involved in Scotland's goal as well - his freekick got deflected in.

The Times are reporting that a fee of £5.5m has been agreed for the sale of Jose Enrique

Hopefully it's true so that we can concentrate on Danny next.

I see aquaman is reported to have turned down a move to Fiorentina. Maybe he sees a future at Anfield. He would be a useful player to have around as he has the potential to open up defences.

Bingo

Enrique be a decent signing and at a very decent price, he had a great season at Newcastle, not too many got the better of him on his defensive side, while he likes to get forward.

Aquilini talked before Italian match that he is happy at Liverpool and they've given him plenty of encouragement that their is a place for him if he stays and that they/he was more than happy with his preseason contribution.
