We have been crying out for a winger, proper strike force and a creative midfielder for years. Downing, Adam, Suarez and Carrol certainly provide that and more than improve the starting XI!

Capt Pat

Suarez is on form coming into the new season 2 goals in the copa america semi final to beat Peru tonight. He is worth twice the amount we paid for him.

I guess Liverpool will rest him for the first month of the new season.
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

I wouldn't have thought so, whatever about the first game, I think he be back fairly soon in action. In the past he was known for flying straight back after internationals and been at training the next morning.

With no involvement in Europe, Liverpool will be able to rest him if needs be.

Sure when we are 12 points clear in October we can rest him for a few weeks no bother. ;)

With Kenny hinting that the spending is done until such times as players are cleared out how do you feel the current squad sits.  Here are 3 teams I have looked at with the current players available.

First team

                                                                Reina

Johnson                    Skrtel                                        Agger                  Aurelio

                          Gerrard                              Lucas             Adam

                              Suarez                         Carroll            Downing

Second team,

                                                Doni

Kelly                       Carra                      Kyriakos                         Insua

                     Aquilani                 Shelvey   Merieles

                                 Henderson       Kuyt                Maxi

That leaves of the current playing staff N'Gog, COle, Robinson, Wilson, Pacheco, Spearing, Wisdom, Ayala, Coady, and Sterling who could make up the followig 3rd team.(Also working on the presumption that Poulsen and Jova are gone)

Jones

Flanagan  Wisdom  Wilson   Robinson

SPearing   Coady    Cole

Sterling   N'Gog     Pacheco

They are 3 pretty strong teams and I would feel that they top team would hold its own with anyone, the middle team would be strong enough for the lower level teams and the 3rd team should play in the Carling cup.  I know obviously some will move on and others will be loaned but all these players are currently on the books at Liverpool and therefore have to be considered.

you forgot aurelio. im nit picking i know. :)

think this highlights the need for pool to get rid of some deadwood;
squad strength definitely goin in the right way; a few good options round midfield these days, still a tad light up front imo....

aurellio?

i still think there will be one more signing, eitehr a LB or a CB
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either

12 points clear of the relegation zone in October would be a massive improvement on last season.

So I did so I've made a few changes and if anything, fitness permitting there is much more balance across the board.  As regards deadwood though I would genuinely say the only players I could put my hand on heart and say I would be happy to see the back of is Jones and Cole.  All the rest of the 3rd team for instance would need to be kept as they are very young and the future players.  If you want to get rid of anyone in the second team they need to be replaced, perhaps apart from one of the MFs ie AA or Merieles.  There is not really that many surplus players over the 33 players.  Deadwood to my mind which must be moved on are the likes of El Zhar, Deggen, Jova, Poulsen, Jones and if someone can be found to take on his wages Cole.  If, for instance, N'Gog left he would have to be replaced by a 4th striker, either an up and coming or and experienced pro happy to play that role.

Unlike you, they seem to take a break.

Jovanovic is hopefully going to Anderlecht in the next week.
