I will say the players also have to take their share of the blame. Some of them looked like they couldn't be bothered to make the effort. If they don't want to play for the manager it's one thing but they should still make the effort for the fans or failing that their own personal pride.

But Hodgson is his own worst enemy at the moment. Meireles was beginning to settle in and perform in his best position in central midfield and he's moved out to the right wing where he's a fish out of water. Kuyt is moved to the left-wing. Just crazy stuff altogether. When your own fans are chanting "Hodgson for England" then the game is almost up.

Yet remarkably Andy Gray et al still refuse to apportion any blame to Uncle Roy. Preferring to again blame the previous manager during the game. I'm pretty sure the previous manager never had us in relegation difficulty even during his very worst spell and 8 of the players involved tonight were part of the same team who hammered Real Madrid 4-0 18 months ago so it's fair to expect them to be able to at least muster a shot on goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

EC Unique

I think it is time that people realised that the players that lfc have are  not up to the job that supporters of lfc expect. The team is simply not good enough and are a bottom quarter squad. Maybe january will change that.

Totally embarrassing result for Liverpool FC tonight, I am ashamed of such a performance. Getting beaten and held scoreless by the bottom side at home, with not even a sniff of a threat to get back into it. That game could have gone on for another 90 mins and we still wouldn't have scored as we had no attacking threat whatsoever. No one player has an excuse for the type of performance put in tonight and they need to have a serious look at themselves and the club need to have a serious look at it's playing and coaching staff - because something has to give, if we are to move forward there has to be major changes in one or both departments. Roy obviously doesn't inspire or motivate the players to the extent he should do, and even at that some of the players are nowhere near good enough to be at Liverpool football club. Even I  (biggest LFC optimist about) am now accepting that we are fcuked and there is no turning it around without major upheaval.

EC Unique has hit the nail on the head. Liverpool don't have the players to be a top ten side anymore never mind a top four...
I'm gonna punch you in the ovary, that's what I'm gonna do. A straight shot. Right to the babymaker.

I know Liverpool are not good enough to finish in the top 5 but they would have a good enough squad to finish 6/7/8. There is no way that the likes of Stoke, Sunderland & Blackpool who are currently above Liverpool have better players but they have managers who have organized their teams so they know what their jobs are....not a team that has 3 centre midfielders in midfielder with one on right midfield & a limited right winger converted from striker playing on the left wing....no-one had a clue where they were playing.

But I also believe the players should take alot of responsibilty, a complete lack of effort & urgency. Wolves were so comfortable it was unbelievable.

The only solution is Woy to go, as the players aren't playing for him.

thats debatable. I have said as last 2 years, take out Torres and Gerrard and they have nobody much better than those 3 clubs have.

The Real Laoislad

IMHO This squad is better than the one which won the Champions League, its also more or less the same squad that finished 2nd a couple of seasons ago,the same squad which hammered Real Madrid 4-0 and then Man United 1-4 as another poster already pointed out.
I think it's lazy to say the squad isn't good enough, the problems run much deeper than that.

Yes it is true the present squad isn't up with the likes of Man City,Arsenal Spurs etc but it is certainly good enough to be beating Wolves and Blackpool at Anfield.
Its also good enough to be at least making a decent effort at challenging for a Champions League spot and should have no problems getting a automatic Europa League spot.

The squad is only part of the problem, its no good having a top quality squad full of superstars if the players are not showing any passion or interest in playing for the jersey which was evident last night,I was all for giving Roy a decent shot at it as manager, but I'm starting to run out of patience big time now.

Anyway I'm coming out of retirement today and I'm off to play my first full soccer match in 4 years,I hope the aul legs are up to it. :)

Just talking to a big Liverpool fan who showed me a text he got late last night from an "insider"m roy gone this afternoon. Dalglish in until end of season. No new players in Jan. A couple may leave if the money is right.

People say this is basically the same set of players who finished runners up 2 seasons ago, but this is not the case. We have lost two vital cogs from the midfield in alonso and mascherano, as well as a few other players who contributed quote a bit when played, such as benayoun, crouch, Hyypia and finnan. The organisation at the back with finnan Sami carr aurelio was excellent compared to soto, skrtel and konchesky this season who have looked like amateurs! 11 of the first 24 squad players from 08/09 are different than this seasons. Fair enough cole & meireles were supposed to be good aquisitions but the rest of them are pretty below average. A midfield of Benayoun Gerrard masch alonso kuyt is far more appealing than some lineups we have witnessed this season so far! Couple of different points in here but jus airing my frustration!!

Minus15

Something has to give somewhere and the performance last night was like Liverpool were the away team. Half the players look disillusioned or not up for it and some of the others are just not good enough.

We know the squad isn't what it was a couple of seasons ago but with the right guidance and organisation it should be at least challenging for top 4. The amount of points being dropped by the top teams this season is more than in recent years and still Liverpool are nowhere near the top four.

We beat Chelsea and went on to draw with Wigan and lose to Stoke. Roy continuously talks about a drop in performance when the team has to play for a third time in a week. Rafa used to get lambasted for his rotation but there is a good reason behind it. That's what you have to expect at Liverpool. Roy really does speak like a whinging manager from a mid table team. He seems to be telling everyone that Liverpool arent capable of anything better.

His excuses are wearing thin now and I think he needs to go because on the evidence we have seen so far he is not the man for the job.

One thing I would say though is that whoever comes in has a huge job on their hands. A massive clearout is needed because there are far too many players who either aren't giving the necessary effort or are simply incapapable of playing for Liverpool and at present are an embarrasment to the Liverpool shirt. The two obvious ones being Torres and Konchesky

Woy is 15-8 to be next gaffer for the chop. Might be worth a punt?

under the bar

A season or two in the Championship would do Liverpool no harm at all.  Look at the job it did it did for Newcastle.
