RM legend Raul was originally at Athletico and moved when they scrapped their youth policy under Jesus Gil, IIRC. So there would be precedent for him to go to Real.

The problem would be that bar 1 very good season in the EPL he's been very poor both at WC and this season to date. Factor in the fact that most of those outside Athletico didn't rate him all that much I think Liverpool would struggle to command more than 15-20 mill. Talk  of 40 is a joke nunless man city get involved.

I dunno where to start with that

Fair enough - he had a poor World Cup and hasn't been great this season.

He's scored 55 league goals in 79 PL games his first 3 seasons -  61 in 94 if you include this season - 0.64 goals per game
Contrast that to Drogba (imo his only competition as best striker in the league) who has scored 49 goals in 81 games in the same time period - 0.60 goals per game
Rooney has 51 goals in 96 games in the same period - 0.53 goals per game
Tevez has 52 goals in 113 games in the same period - 0.46 goals per game
Lampard has 45 goals in 101 games in the same period - 0.44 goals per game

Fact of the matter is - since he landed in England - no-one has scored more Premier League goals than him (unless I'm completely forgetting someone)

Chelsea had a bid for him turned down the year before he signed for Liverpool - and it's well known Fergie had his eye on him when he was at Atletico. Arsenal had been linked with him too

Liverpool have settled into mid table, sitting comfortably there, and hot favourites  to move into a credible  6th place.
What's the problem with Roy then? Looks like, from a shaky start, he has managed an average team to above average results.

heganboy

out of curiosity are you expecting anyone to take the bait here?
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity

Bait  :o
Did he not sign Meireles? is he not regarded as a good player?
Then tell me what were the expectations for LFC when they got beat in that cup competition? Now that Roy has got LFC to recover lost ground and being touted as hot favourite for the 6th spot, the hounds are after him.

Cant actually believe someone was trying to question Torres' ability or record! What a laugh. The man is a touch of class and a goal predator. His record for liverpool is unbelieveable as mentioned, all from play and with a lack of service. Also together with Stevie G, I would like to see a partnership which has scored more goals over the last few seasons!!

Rooney and Ronaldo have scored around the same as Torres and Gerrard since Torres came to iverpool , of course Ronaldo has left Utd for the last 2 seasons ( where he has scored 55 goals in 58 appearances!!!

Hold my hand up over his pre 2010/11 Liverpool form. Never recollected him being the prolific but stats is stats and they actually are v impressive.

I stand by his play in Spain. I have friends (anyone but Real ones too) who told me he was regarded In the press there a bit like andy cole. Needed 10 chances to score 1.  His international record looks average enough too.

Having said all that he's having a mare this year and clearly looks like he wants to be elsewhere. A new manager might change that but with a new addition to the family he (more importantly his wife) may be hankering for a return back home.

What the f**k is this man smoking???  He seems to think that we are all stupid?  He says that over the last 6 games only Arsenal and Manure have a better record when in fact at least 6 other clubs are higher up the performance table than Liverpool!  He admits to that he cannot do anymore, that he can't work any harder  and the players can't work any harder, ergo it must be someone elses.  I wonder who he and the Brit media blame? ::)  This article in my view is very much a case of

Roy: Our owners are right
14th Dec 2010 - Latest News

Roy Hodgson admits Liverpool's owners were right to suggest results have been unacceptable so far this season but insists they remain united in their desire to achieve long-term success.

The boss was responding to comments made by NESV Principal Owner John Henry and Chairman Thomas Werner during a phone-in conducted by LFC TV on Monday night.

He told his pre-Utrecht press conference: "The only team with better results than us over the past five or six games is Arsenal or Manchester United. If you take the last five or six games we are right up there in terms of results.

"They (the owners) used the same terms as I would. If you ask me whether results this season over the 17 games we have played are acceptable and is that what you expected when you came to Liverpool Football Club, then I'd say 'no it's unacceptable and I expected much better.'

"I don't think the results over 17 games have been that good. We've been saved a bit by our European matches. We've done very well there. I've been satisfied with that because we've not always used our so-called best team.

"I'm expecting the next few games to go better. I'm expecting to see the team climb the table. I've seen what the owners said and they spoke very well - Considering it was a phone-in, they did very well."

He added: "I don't have any fears or concerns. The owners have made it very clear. They said that they are in it for the long-term and want to be patient. They realise it will take time and that we can't turn things around overnight.

"Everything with the owners has been 100 per cent positive. They've been excellent."

Roy Hodgson defiant after Liverpool owners say results must improve

• 'I don't have any fears, worries or concerns'
• Comments come after John Henry called results 'unacceptable'

Roy Hodgson today said he does not fear for his job and is confident Liverpool's owners New England Sports Ventures will back him as he tries to turn around the club's recent decline.

The 63-year-old has been under almost constant scrutiny since replacing Rafael Benítez in July as early results left the side in the Premier League's bottom three for several weeks. Results have picked up in recent weeks but Saturday's defeat at Newcastle did not help.

In a fans' phone-in last night the principal owner, John Henry, described results as "unacceptable" and that was interpreted by some as a thinly-veiled warning to the manager. However, Hodgson said he was in total agreement with Henry's assessment but was not concerned about his future and was confident the situation would improve, given time and the necessary investment.

"I don't have any fears, worries or concerns," he said. "But if you put it to me 'You feel there is no chance whatsoever of you getting sacked' then I would be in a minority of one in that respect. It happened to Chris Hughton, it happened to Sam Allardyce, Martin O'Neill resigned – we are all in that situation.

"But as someone who prides himself as a professional, who knows his job and is comfortable with doing his job, then you would excuse me for not going down the route you want me to go down in terms of 'Who can we get rid of next?'.

"Because basically speaking unless there is a major inflow of cash into the club and the team is going to be changed from one moment to the next then whoever takes my place will be doing a similar job with similar players. The owners have made it perfectly clear they are in it for the long term and they are going to be patient; they realise it is going to take time.

"They realise we can't turn things around overnight and they also realise that the team I am working with is not the team I put together. You don't turn things around overnight and they are aware of the magnitude of the task but they are very focused on what needs to be done and I am convinced they will help me get it done."

Hodgson, speaking at a press conference ahead of tomorrow's final Europa League Group K clash at home to Utrecht, was quizzed at length about his position at the club. He became increasingly frustrated at the line of questioning, although he accepted it was something he had become used to during his short time at the club.

"Once again I come here to do a European press conference, playing Utrecht when we are top of the table, and I find myself answering questions about owners and whether I am safe – it is a sad situation," he added.

"I came here to do a European press conference, which I am forced to do for Uefa, when really and truly I am doing a phone-in with you. That is the nature of the game, it seems to be the major preoccupation of the mass media because they want to see change.

"It doesn't bother me because I can't do more than I am doing, I can't work harder, I can't work better. I have great confidence in my ability, I don't think there is any reason not to have. I know the players are working as hard as they can to win matches for Liverpool and therefore me as manager.

"But if you have situations like last night when you have phone-ins to the owners you don't have to be a rocket scientist to know how that is going to go because we are not top of the league. Had we been top of the league it might have been different but we are not, we are ninth and we are Liverpool Football Club. You don't have to be Albert Einstein to work out more people will be unhappy with that than are happy with it."

Liverpool are 10th in the league on form over the past 6 games

there is absolutely nothing in that table that makes for good reading...

He is a full and is so far detached from reality that it is scary.  I only hope that NESV get the CEO in sooner rather than later.  Brian Barwick seems like a strong candidate.

Blackburn have just sacked their manager and they are above us in that table....

Maybe he's using something like the Capello Index?  :D
