Hopefully whenever a poster on here complains about a football match, tv programme etc. You are consistent and come back with that witty response.

You seem to have a lot of time on your hands I'll leave that to you

You know you could post on here whilst stoking a steam train, it doesn't take any time at all.

Seems to harness his inner 'civil servant' during the working week that's for sure #vfm

I feel this one could be trouble. Gonna say you're probably right if he responds again and that will hopefully flummox him

Have we given up on English whilst posting.

Just watched recording of that toy show after reviews it's getting. Thought it was very enjoyable and brought a lot of happiness to all those kids and viewers. What this country needs these days...

laoislad

I enjoyed it. The kids enjoyed it.
I thought the two little fellas from Finglas, where Roy Keane came out, were brilliant.
The little fella chipping golf balls into the potty was also great.
Nordie Tayto is shite

Everybody knows what it is.  Light entertainment with a super charity fundraiser attached to it.

Great for everyone in the run up to Christmas.

Some nice gifts for people in the audience also.

Munchie

But it is 3 hours of advertising.

Two men looked through prison bars.. one saw mud the other saw stars 🌟

Munchie

Wonder how many poor parents weeks before Christmas had their kids yapping for the advertised products.

Dunno. Don't ever remember my kids looking toys off the LLS.. more into all the entertainment and fun. Is toys and commodities people cant afford waved in shops and everywhere else...

Munchie

Its weeks before Christmas and the RTE flagship show is running a 3 hour toy advertising campagin when parents are struggling, on top of which fire us all your spare money, who has that.

Substandard

Was it ever any different,  wasn't there always elements of advertising?  And wouldn't parents (including my own) have endured clamour for I want, I want?  Yet my mother still watches religiously every year, and now (when health allows) can experience that magic with her grandkids?
I remember (or at least I think I do now) remember a number of things from my early childhood watching Gay Byrne and the Toy Show.  I remember dreaming about fancy expensive toys, and I remember learning to live with the concept that those dreams would never happen.  Mostly I remember the sense of family: grandparents (as long as they were in it), parents,  myself,  and later siblings, all bonding together,  like so many other families.
Were we being cynically manipulated by marketing and advertising?  Probably.  Did it dilute the magic for us?  Probably not.

I've never heard that critique of the show before not even from VDP or other groups helping people in poverty. I suppose parents can make sure their kids don't watch it.. or go near shops before Christmas.
Then again others see the joy it brings those kids that met Roy Keane.. played the Kingfishr song.. the message from Shane Lowry... suppose it depends how you see things.

Sure it's only been like that for nearly 50 years. You are a bit late to the party if that's your concern from this years show.
