So that's Westmeath completely bypassed now.

Wheras over to the East in Mordor they're struggling to keep up with the pace and put some tarmac around an aul hill... Maybe get the Yellow Bellies up early at the weekend to help get a move on  ;)

Prob with going on the old road is the speed limit of 80  :o
Westmeath - Home of the Christy Ring Cup...

thats partially the prob
the real prob is those crazy bustards overtaking on blind curves and anywhere they can causing accidents etc - moyvalley , in spite of its long straight stretch was a notorious accident blackspot with a lot of people killed (in cars or pedestrians struck by cars) over the past 25 years - before the new M4 :(

Not so much in spite of it long straight stretcvh but because if it nearly. Only half decent over taking opportunity for most, unfortunately a lot of junctions on that stretch and a lot of idiots out there. Drove it there recently enough and they have it marked propely with traffic islands but it was one spot crying out for calming measures to highlight the junctions for years. Another bad stretch was Enfield to Kilcock, serious loss of life on that stretch - overtaking up a hill should always be a major no no - but at least they made some effort there in latter years. The M4, toll or no, is literally a life saver.
