If you want players to respect a referee the first thing you need to do is to provide good referees, there aren't many in the GAA.

I can't imagine many of these incidents with referees arising out of a good refereeing display.
Which one of you bitches wants to dance?

I agree with you entirely Pints - that referee

You're right Pints -  I saw Collins make a balls of the Kerry game and then Mcc Quillan reffed the Kildare game - both were abysmsal - these referees would need to wise up - they're out there to gain attention for themselves.

So in a nut shell

Member of club x or y breaks the rules and punches a ref
GAA guy looks up rule book and applies rule x of the rule book
Club x or y say this isnt fair
So a other GAA guy says yeah lets ignore our own rules again  and lifts the ban ?

Correct me if i'm wrong
Anyway, long story short... is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling.

The performance of both these Refs today, is one the reasons for the lack of respect shown to Refs. generally. They were petty in the extreme, holding up the games while they delivered lectures. issued cards and make notes. The levels of inconsistency  they displayed, underline the major problems in our game when it comes too rule definitions and agreed interpretations of them.

Is there a game Collins hasn't made a balls of?

According to Hogan Stand attempts are being made to sort things out before the weekend. I think the refs were just right to stand up for themselves. Nobody else will  :).

Offaly - 'Peace in our time?'04 March 2008

It is understood peace talks may take place inside the next 48 hours to address the row which caused the postponement of all GAA matches in county Offaly last weekend.

A full programme of senior football league matches failed to take place as planned last weekend after the Faithful County referees withdrew their services after the county board overturned a decision to throw St. Mary's out of the Under 21 football championship.

It is now expected that a delegation of referees will meet with County Board officials before the weekend.

If Inter-County refs where to stike in support of the club refs ye might see it getting sorted.

CCC recommended ban, Hearings comitttee imposed the ban.
Team appealed for leniency, CCC recommended lifting the ban and imposing a fine, no home games for two years and warning re future conduct.  Hearings committee rubber stamped the recommendation.

Maybe we should Mod's 1,2 & 3 down to Offaly, they could do a game each on the Friday night under lights, another 9 games between them on the Saturday, and again on the Sunday

Apparently there's no sign of this being sorted and more games fixed for this weekend have been called off.
