Concra Wood in Blayney is a mighty track and is very good value. It a parkland course with water on a number of holes from Lough Muckno that runs alongside it. Very good value as well.

You could play it on Sunday, stay local and then play Nuremore/Carlingford/Baltry the next day which aren't too far away. Alot of people play Concra and want to play it again the next day mind once they know the course and what another crack at it. (I'd hire a buggy though!).

The club are playing championship that sunday so they'll be a few about town that night for pints. Its not far from Fermanagh either.

If you like links head out to Belmullet and play Carna, the Broadhaven will do a deal for dinner, b&b and a round of golf, good town for pints town. Play enniscrone on the way home and you'll have played two of the best links courses in ireland. Belmullet is prob 2.5 hrs from enniskillen, enniscrone 1.5.

+1.

Depends what you're after and age group as visitors seem to congregate in The Squeling Pig, Master Deery's, Westernra etc. Plenty of other boozers besides.

Croí na hÉireann

Just coming round after a weekend in Carrick. Fine golf course and no shortage of drinking dens on a Sunday.

Lads - What about round belfast?  Anywhere people could go on a Saturday morning for a quiet round.

Course doesnt have to be PGA standard.  Heading out with two mates and one wouldnt know where to begin so could dig a few holes around the place.

Somewhere less established that Mount Ober.  Burnfield probably a bit too far away.

Fortwilliam/Cliftonville are two courses up my direction.  Ormeau is a 9 hole option.

Dunmurry is pretty good.

Fortwilliam is a lovely course - be prepared for a few uphill holes though! 4 of us went there recently using that 2-fore-1 website and got on for £10 a head.

Cliftonville is a 9 hole - nowhere near as good as Fortwilliam but still not a bad wee course

Further out of Belfast than those 2 is Greenacres - have played it a good bit this year and definitely not a bad course. Think it's £24 at weekends. If you don't have any joy getting out on Fortwilliam or Cliftonville then I'd say Greenacres will have some space on the timesheet - ring and book though

There's also one out towards Bangor (near the Clandeboye) - can't remember the name now - Blackwood or something? Played it a few Saturdays ago on a groupon offer and had no bother getting out - it was actually quite quiet and was a nice course as well

It's a few miles from Belfast, but Down Royal wouldn't be far from what you're looking for. It's open enough for a beginner but long enough for a decent player.

Anybody ever play Concra Wood? Think it is around Castleblaney direction.

If you are going to go that far out of belfast I would go to Edenmore or Lurgan instead of Down Royal.

the local course, excellent track. Challenging but very playable, greens are super. No two holes the same. It's a long walk, buggy can be advisable if you not feeling fresh!

Anything else needed let me know.

Orior

I played Whitehead for the first time today.

Absolutely stunning views of Islandmagee, Scotland, Copeland Islands, North Down coast, Mourne Mountains and Whitehead. Course was in good shape. I'd highly recommend it, except on a windy day.
