Immaterial, but sure why not!

Thought it was a penalty straight off (when the ball came in) and even when it was given i wasn't surprised. But from the telly I thought the point when the whistle was blown wasn't as clear cut.. Can a penalty be given for fouling over 6-7 steps?? Id av thought not. Surely its an instantaneous thing (within 2-3, max 4 steps), so if the ref didn't blow for the first phase of fouling, then it becomes irrelevant for the next phase (the point that it was given)..

After watchin it there, no way is Benny only "reaching out" as he is being tackled to the ground. He knows well that Corey is vigorous with his tackling (which could have resulted in a penalty in its own right) so he grabs on, and lets gravity and Corey do the rest!!

On two other notes, that has to be the biggest league programme ever.. 50 flippin pages!!.. Also was anyone else watchin the 4 wee boys on the pitch at half time?? The greatest half time entertainment ive seen.. Batein lumps out of each other and not a tear between them.. Great stuff!!

Sat in the stand with a few Monaghan supporters and we were all aghast how the penalty hadn't been awarded earlier although to be fair to Coldrick his attitude seemed to be to let the play flow as much as possible - so when Coulter was dragged across the square for about half an hour it was surely time for  a penalty. Later watching it again on the box, the few words "as Gaelge" might come in handy in interpreting the TG4 commentary where the penalty was expected long before the ref gave it.
Fierce tame altogether

That's some gut on Corey. Maybe Dublin really are the only county training at the moment!
There is overwhelming evidence that the Monaghan first team sincerely (and with enthusiasm) observe the CC dictate on the winter break.

Maguire01, you are very selective with your photo. Corey was all over Coulter and had grabbed his shirt for at least 6-7 of Coulter's steps. No, two players can't foul but if you grab a shirt 6-7 steps after you have been grabbed that doesn't stop the first foul being a foul. It is irrelevant that Coulter had a hold of Corey's shirt as he was going down. the only relevant fact is that Corey sent him down in the first place.

The photo is from the exact point that Benny is falling, naturally he grabbed out. That means you are seeing him reach out for Corey's shirt AFTER he has been fouled and felled. Corey clearly has both hands on Coulter's shirt and is nowhere near the ball. He is pulling Benny in toward him, off balance and ultimately down to the ground. I am amazed at your interpretation of the photo and what was a blatent penalty that took Colding an absoloute age to decide to finally give.
Just a few points. Firstly, I was not selective with my photo - I posted the only one I could find. If you have more, or can post a video, please do.

Having just watched it on Setanta, Benny was pulling Corey's jersey for (at least) his last 4 steps (from just after he had bounced the ball) - he wasn't 'naturally grabbing out' at all, at least not in the sense you're saying. He wasn't reaching out after he was 'felled', as you put it.

It's over and done with and of little odds, but the points I mentioned were what I would deem factual inaccuracies rather than interpretation. Although on the point of interpretation, the Setanta commentator said that "it mightn't be a gilt-edged penalty", indicating that it wasn't quite as clear cut as you interpret it.

Anyway, it's academic.

Certainly looks like it - Paidí would've blushed 25 years ago if he came back in March with a gut like that on him!

JP retired. He's had an operation on the knee and is hoping to play club football for another few years. I don't think he knee would hold up for another few years of intercompany training, plus he has baby number 3 on the way and he is building a house, so he plenty of other commitments.
