It looks like a poor return for whatever money was invested. The stand looks like a shed - something that would have been built in the 80s.

It's an absolute disgrace that this stand ever got the go ahead.  It's a monstrosity and looks completely out of proportion with the rest of the stadium.  Why did they not build a smaller stand and bring the rest of the stadium up to a decent standard?

For all future developments of county grounds around the country the new Athletic Grounds should be held up as an example of what should be done:  a compact ground of 20,000 capacity with a well finished all seated stand of around 6,000 capacity and a covered terrace opposite.

Looking forward to seeing the Athletics Grounds next week - the photos looked impressive since they put the cladding on that building. Although it might make the roofed terrace on the other side look even more crap.

I agree about the value €13 for a match is fantastic. I don't want to hear about other sports being professional and so you expect to pay more. These lads are athletes, they give 100% and train every day. Just because they have other jobs doesn't mean their performance is less worth watching or less entertaining than rugby or soccer. And you don't get to top class rugby or soccer for €13.

I have a season ticket and I intend to go to every match except one that's 7 matches (including the first championship game) for €75 or €11 per match. Simply great value fro what was really top class GAA.

certainly beats 150 quid for a rugby friendly
do people here really pay money in watch a great game to feel let down and disappointed because they're were not more people at the match? if you do i think you've got some severe  confidence issues

I heard the selection of canapes was quite limited too.
If you were any use you'd be playing.

I went over to see the Armagh v Dublin game last week, it's a tidy wee ground.  The covered terrace might not look the best but there was not a lot they could have done with the restricted space available to them.

It is astonishing how few grounds actually have more than one covered seated or terraced stand! Croke Park (obviously), the Athletic Grounds, Parnell Park, Nowlan Park, Semple Stadium Stadium, Pairc Uí Rinn, Dr. Hyde Park (shouldn't really be included as the terraced stand only covers the back 2 rows i'd say).  Is that it?  Pretty pathetic really.

20,000 far too small for Mayo v Galway in the Championship or Connacht Finals or when the Rossies have their tails up.

That doesn't mean you build 30/40,000 capacity grounds all around the country for a game every 2 or 3 years.

Collingwood (and Carlton and Richmond) got 40,000 to the pre season game last night. The AFL tried a round robin format with three teams which really didn't seem to work.

Zach Tuohy got a run last night for Carlton - went OK. Seems to have done a lot of work in the gym and in the tanning saloon.

Difference is Melbourne is a city of 4,400,000 people, with a fantastic transport system, trains and trams right to the MCG, same to the Etihad/Docklands Stadium. (Some busses too).

Castlebar 15,000 (10,700 Urban area)
