Are there any rules for match-ups in the semi finals? Will they still try to have teams that already met apart?

Semi-Finals

13-14.07.2024 (Sat/Sun)

The four quarter-final winners shall play against each other in the Semi-Final based on a draw, subject to the avoidance of repeat pairings from the championship, where possible.

If the 4 teams already in the QFs win, then Armagh and Donegal could not play each other and would be drawn against Dublin and Kerry, no doubt leading to an Armagh - Donegal final.

I think we match up fairly well to Kerry tbh but I'd be afraid we'd set up too deep and end up losing a tight game. McCambridge did a decent job on Clifford the last time in the league but realistically if he's on it he's getting scores if he's not you've half a chance.

If we got the Dubs our big strength off the bench wouldn't be as big of a help given the quality they can bring on but sure it'd be a free hit at them and we'd be totally written off.

Anyway getting way ahead of myself there but sure why not. I think Mayo and Galway fitness/injury dependent could run any of the quarter finalists close or beat them. Tyrone won't beat Kerry or Dublin imo especially without Kilpatrick but if we drew them in Croker it would be some game and go down to the wire.

Today 12 teams left in the All Ireland championship and by next Sunday evening the 30th will only be four teams left standing. Knock out stages too rushed for a group stage to eliminate four teams.

I'm warming to it. Think McConville makes a good point regarding allowing teams more competitive games. On the other hand Derry deserve to be out at this stage. Hard to know.

Mr Burns and Co. seem to be mounting a campaign against the present system, a year and a half into a 3 year trial passed by c95% vote.
Someone needs to be putting the opposite view.
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

People complaining that not enough teams are getting eliminated, but also that too many teams will soon be getting eliminated.

Even if 8 teams were eliminated at the end of the group stage. We'd still be down to four teams on the 30th.

That's just the nature of knock out football. Give me the cut and thrust of these games over the slow grind of the group matches every day of the week. It's only this weekend that the real championship begins.
