FIFA to probe North Korea claims

Sepp Blatter has confirmed FIFA will look into claims of mistreatment of North Korea's players and coach.

Widespread reports this month claimed Kim Jong-Hun was sentenced to hard labour and his squad were subjected to a six-hour interrogation by government officials following a World Cup campaign which ended with three straight defeats.

Blatter today told a press conference in Singapore FIFA had contacted the new president of the North Korean football association and were looking into the matter.

'(We contacted them) to tell us about the election of a new president, and if it is true, the allegations made by the media that the coach and some players have been condemned or punished,' he said.

'The first step is the federation and we'll see what the answer will be, and then we can elaborate on that.'

FIFA take a dim view of government interference in footballing matters and have often in the past suspended affected federations.

It is believed athletes in the secretive Communist country have previously been jailed for poor performances.

I wonder who 'it is believed' by?

FIFA take a dim view of government interference

That'll teach them.

Banana Man

So Sepp Blatter has now turned his attention to North Korea  :D

I'm sure North Korea will release the lads now and apologise  ::)

I don't see why this is big news. That all happened here in Ireland.  Down in Cork a Manager was persecuted for years and threathened to be shot as well, despite our governments offer of mediation to the Peoples Republic. Despite recent appointments by those in the party it seems things have not changed that much and despite their team training all year and reaching the All-Ireland Semi-Final there was no large crowds out to greet them home last Sunday.  Not much difference between Korea and Cork then?
" Laois ? You can't drink pints of Guinness and talk sh*te in a pub, and play football the next day"

Would that be the same place where there was allegedly a boycott of the managers mothers funeral organised by some ringleaders?
