Probably a stupid question but here goes, i spend quite a bit of time in England and considered getting a sat nav system for the car like a garmin or tomtom.  My phone contract will be soon be up for renewal and was wondering what way the gps works on them, can it do the job of a sat nav.  Have only seen the google maps on an iphone and i don't think it would be that useful for directions but is there another application for this or better applications on other handsets. If a phone is the way to go what type and what software is the best for uk and ireland, or is it really only a gimmick and am i best gettin a decent phone just??

I downloaded a copy of garmin for my nokia n95. I have only being messing with it but it gets you where you need to go even like other sat navs it might take you around the world to get there

Recently got a Garmin Nuvi 200W.

Only got round to opening the damn thing a couple days ago, turn it on and it searches and searches for satellite reception but nothing.

I have taken it everywhere with it on searching and nothing. The reception bars in the corner are bare.

I know there is reception in the area as the girlfriend's father has a Garmin and never any problems.

Anyone any help on the matter??

I just e-mailed the people I bought it from (PentagonGPS) and Garmin themselves, I'll be fucked if I have just wasted £110.
