Quote from: Bring back club football on June 15, 2025, 12:22:10 AMKevin Brady has to be the front runner for the Antrim senior job.

Represented the senior football team for years.

Won the McRory cup in recent years with Magherafelt and the Derry senior championship with Newbridge.

No Antrim man comes close CV wise.

You have to wonder would he be interested in the job ? Newbridge surely a lot handier to a man living in Magherafelt , teaches in Magherafelt rather than travelling to Jordanstown every other night to have to plague with the county board for anything ! Just a thought , Kevin would be a great manager for them and no doubt bring great experience but put yourself in his shoes you have to wonder!

That's it, but money talks as some say if Andy was getting the guts of 60k what would he be asking for??

I think he's definitely good enough just a tough job as your first inter county team.

Definitely a tough job , has he been involved in any county background teams before ? Money I don't think would be a huge issue , if we are willing to throw the rumoured figure at McEntee and I would imagine Brady would be less why not give it a go and see if he is interested.

I wouldn't consider Antrim a particularly difficult job for a good inter-county level manager - if anything, it's arguably one of the easier. The expectations are relatively modest, the media pressure is minimal, and there's a widespread understanding that any new manager is inheriting a shit-show of a set-up. This means they'll only held partially accountable for poor outcomes in the early stages.

Realistically, our only demand is simply to get out of Division 4, and that should be very achievable. Anything beyond that would be considered a bonus.

Of course, any county management role will require a serious amount of time and effort, but for the right person it's a chance to make a visible impact over a few seasons and use that as a springboard. Someone like Kevin Brady would be an excellent choice if he is interested.

The bigger problem, for me, is getting buy in. If we don't get buy in then we have no god given right to be getting out of division 4 so then expectations becomes a thing too because you won't have the players or the commitment to meet any expectations.

The last two management tenures have ended in exactly the same way (Assuming McEntee is done) and someone has to ask the question of why that is.

I feel like it would be difficult more so to the shit show of a set up as you said and yeah buy in of players

Just think someone like Kevin would be a breath of fresh air , get out of division 4 and build on getting up through Div 3 and Tailtean cup after a couple of years.

Easy said , any other potential managers if he was not interested barring Madden and McKeever who were previously mentioned

I think all players would buy-in to Brady, with a good coaching team around him it could be a really good fit.

Outside of him (and McKeever/Madden as I previously suggested) I don't think there is anyone internally that could take the main role.

I would be all on for a Damien Cassidy, Tony McEntee, Aidan O'Rourke type to take the helm with some good inside coaches making up the ticket. Plenty of good coaches operating within the county at the moment who would fit the bill there - R Devlin, T O'Neill, Jackman, R O'Neill, Douglas etc etc (no shortage) and would have better understanding of the player pool than those that have been involved recently.

There are a lot worse managers out there than what we currently have in Andy McEntee, but I would fear if he stays there will be a mini player exodus, which we certainly don't need if we are to get straight out of D4.

Milltown Row2

The current Cargin manager has to be in the mix if he was interested. Its hard to know if you are a coach/manager, an up and coming one, what would be best for your development, the Antrim job can be a graveyard for managers that move on..

As for ones saying there's no pressure? The pressure is on it from the start, the minute he makes his panel of coaching staff to his first panel of players named

Thankless task and you'd need the skin of a rhino to brush off the criticism
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

Take the Mark

I retract my nomination of Bannside for the role after the Masters draw with Derry at the weekend which I think sees them drop down to the shield/B competition  :o
