I would agree about the penalties. St Galls dropped the gead a good bit after missing their penalty. I thought they *may* have went on and won it. Also Kevin McGourty missing first half was a massive loss.

Basically Cross had more men who could take scores. That along with St Galls indiscipline in the game cost them. The discipline, in terms of fouling in scoreable regions, improved second half but in teh first half it was shocking.

One stage I thought was very telling. St Galls were 3 down and had a good chance. Niblock hadn't the confidence to shoot so ended up overplaying it to a man who picked off the ground. Cross go up and score, win the kickout and score again. 5 point game.

You compare that to McKenna, the Kernans and McConville and all could take points. St Galls needed Kelly or McGourty. Gallagher hadn't the pace to get space for shooting. Having said that McNamee doesn't appear to have a good set of shooting boots...

Regarding cheap shots to be honest both teams were as bad as each other.

Cross looked a formidable side yesterday. Ulster should not be a problem.

ONeill

I thought the Cross penalty was a good decision. Kelly fouled/tripped his man who was going to challenge for the ball.

Kevin McGourty didn't connect at all with the elbow.
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

mackers

Fair play to Cross, they are a better team than I gave them credit for. I based my opinion on the fact that they should have been beaten in both the Armagh semi-final (first match and replay) and final. Maybe the much maligned club scene in Armagh is better than a whole lot think it is.
I think St Galls thought that they could physically dominate this young Cross team and it backfired on them as they lost their focus early doors. Thought AK was back to his best yesterday, he was outstanding with only Oisin beating him to MOTM. Oisin is still the man that makes this team tick, his assurance and confidence seems to rub off on his team mates. Hanratty should have walked long before he did although his red card should have been a yellow.
I presume Gareth O'Neill has earned himself a touchline ban when he got involved with a couple of St Galls players in one of the first half dust ups. Paul McKeown had to take him away out of the road.
Keep your pecker hard and your powder dry and the world will turn.

Absolutely true. Those wee angels from Cross wouldn't say boo to a goose. Never give sly digs or anythjing like that and for poor Francie, why do other players always pick on him knowing that he has never touched anyone in his life. Just ask Micky Linden.
Francie wasn't penalised for that Linden just came off second best.

Overall Cross where far more hungier on the day than St Galls but nobody has commented on the penalties.  I actually think if Galls had scored their penalty at that stage they would have went on to win the game as i felt they had the momentum. Also thought that the penalty Cross where awarded was incredibly soft, 9 times out of 10 you dont see them given.  Think it was overall the turning point, Cross where well on top at that stage but Galls where in touching distance i always felt up to that.  Felt sorry for Niblock who i thought had a good game, anything that was kicked up to him, he was out in front and won.  He struck his penalty well, low and hard, great save just and i felt that the game hung on the 2 penalties.  Take nothing away from Cross though, where def the team that wanted it more oin the day, just thought it would have made for an interesting last 15 minutes had Galls netted.

Home advantage a big thing too in the lster Championship games as it showed this weekend.

Disagree. How many times did Cross go for goal instead of points in the second half? They should have scored at least 5 points. The red card at the end for the cross player was a complete joke. Oisin still has the golden touch, Francis was unrecognizable (I havent seen him play for a while) and I dont mean that as a good thing, everytime he took a hit he was the one that came off worse 3 or 4 years ago the other player would have been rolling on the floor while Francie would stand there looking for the next player.

The good thing from a Cross perspective is that they were not happy with just winning and I dont think we have seen the best of them either.

Thon CJ McGourty is nothing short of a gypo. Having stood on the sidelines watching him at the Kilmacud 7's, been at the match yesterday and after watching the highlights on tg4, it really showed how much of a w*****r he is. Any time a St.Galls man gets fouled, he's over yapping and mouthing. Priceless image seeing him lying on the ground with hands in the air while J.Hanratty standing over him with a closed fist.

Hard to go past a defender this time of year, well i should say a good defender, which there were quite a few of in yesterdays game.  Cross were full value for the win, but there are plenty of sides that will fancy themselves to beat them.  However if i was forced to call a ulster champ winner out of whos left i would have to pick cross, and you couldn blame me.
St galls winning a soft AI is porbably the most rediculous statement i have read here.  I think its a stupid statement to make regarding the intercounty AI, but to win a club AI is even harder, given that it wasnt just the games they won last year that helped them, it was ones they won and lost (mainly the final defeat to Salthill) in early years that made them worthy champs last year.

someone said cross are f**ked if they need to bring back john mac, well if galls are bringing on ohare i know who is f**ked!

Very true, has he done any training since 2002?

It was very evident from the start yesterday that St Galls were trying to match Cross physically, but they went about it with cheap late hits and digs whereas Cross hit fair and hard.  The shoulder from Hanratty on Gallagher was immense, and it really lay down the marker to the St Galls players who until that stage were hitting men late when they were after kicking the ball or firing sly punches to the sides of peoples heads.  There was a huge contrast in attitudes from the beginning, as someone already mentioned Gallagher hitting ther ball out of a Cross players hands at the start when a free had been given, well alot of the time I saw Cross give away a free their players just rolled the ball towards the opposition player and got on with it without any yapping.  They seemed very well disciplined apart from the moment of madness from Morgan (did he slide in or slip?).  Tony, Stephen and Aaron Kernan seemed to have an unbelievable amount of possession, and they used it well.  The Cross forward line showed up well in front of their man each time and their link up play up front was very good.  The Red for Hanratty was very harsh, especially in comparison with the deliberate swing of the elbow from McGourty at a mans head moments earlier which the referee clearly seen.  How did he not get a straight red for that?
It was actually a foul. Gallagher was soloing the ball at the time. McGourty should definitely have walked though, contact or not he swung an elbow at the man's head. Not even a booking, not sure what the ref was at!

Also, some have said it wasn't a penalty for Cross. It was a clear obstruction, moment of madness from Sean Kelly. Often you don't see them given, but I think it was the right call.

After the penalty Niblock seemed to take him out a bit, then he got a knee in the head. Not sure how Francie could have been expected to have got the better or either exchange.

Don't know if it was just me or did some of the st galls players look a bit over weight and not as trim as you would expect this time of year? Looked to be a bit of a gut on a few of them! (not counting the keeper!)

Quote5.29 (a) To charge an opponent in the back or to the
front.
(b) To charge an opponent:
(i) who is not in possession of the ball, or
(ii) is in the act of kicking the ball, or
(iii) both players are not moving in the direction
of the ball to play it.

It actually wasn't a foul.

Mc Gourty probably should have gone for the elbow and I cannot understand how the ref missed it, or decided that it wasn't a booking at least.

One or two certainly didn't look fully fit and when Darren O'Hare came on I looked at his gut and realised there is life in me yet :D :D
