two ends of the scale. We were debating Stephen Ireland last week and he is one guy who seems to hate Irish national team and here we have another wishing so hard that the manager would give him a chance;

Andy Reid is surely worth a place in the squad as his set pieces and creative play could be priceless for Ireland

Never did hear the full story as to why A Reid was dropped - was it something to do with sitting up late playing cards and drinking after Trapp had told him to go to bed?

Playing the guitar apparently  ::)

He's probably good enough to make the team, never mind the squad. I reckon he's a better footballer than any of the current midfield options. But, the way Trapattoni has the team set up there is nowhere for Reid to fit in. He can't play the deep defensive midfielder/ auxiliary centre back role that Andrews and Whelan play, and he doesn't have the pace or work rate to play as one of the widemen. That said, I think he'd be the perfect man to have on the bench to throw on with 25 minutes to go if we're chasing for a goal.

Any professional footballer who had to lose 9KGs between two seasons does not deserve to be in any football team. If seems there was some disrespecting the manager at the time and if there was he deserves to be sitting at home. He is a good div. 1 player or lower premier league player

Reid is another one of these players who has achieved more in supporters minds through being absent than he ever did by being present.

But in saying that, if we're in a World Cup play-off and need a goal with 20 minutes to go to secure qualification, I'd much rather bring him and Rory Delap onto the field than some of the wackfuvks that Trappatoni is persisting with.

I think he should be in the squad anyhow. Look, fair enough if you want to play a midfield of workers with little creativity but surely to have a creative option on the bench would be an advantage. Especially if you are up against a team that just wants to defend all night. Maybe Trapp is trying to make an example of Reid, if he is then the point has surely been made now and he should invite him back

So are the majority of the Irish squad, some aren't even up to this standard.

Goalkeepers:
Shay Given, Keiren Westwood, Joe Murphy.

Defenders:
John O'Shea, Kevin Foley, Richard Dunne, Stephen Kelly, Kevin Kilbane, Eddie Nolan, Sean St Ledger, Paul McShane, Darren O'Dea.

Midfielders:
Aiden McGeady, Damien Duff, Darron Gibson, Glenn Whelan, Keith Andrews, Liam Miller, Stephen Hunt, Andy Keogh, Steven Reid, Liam Lawrence.

Forwards:
Caleb Folan, Kevin Doyle, Robbie Keane, Shane Long, Leon Best

No question he should be in the sqaud, hes an awesome footballer, great vision and passer, dangerous from set pieces too, he was brilliant yday, Miller is playing shit for Hibs and Whelan can pass beyond 10 yrds, a joke, Reid is flying fit and fair play to him, he got a personal trainer during holidays to be fit and it payed off. Its a sad reflection of trap holding a grudge to the detriment of the team and our chances. Pisses me off. It has nothing to do with football him not being in the squad. Great option to have and hopefully trap will swallow his pride and stubborness and pick him.

Perhaps an even bigger question is why isn't Keith Fahey in the squad?

Playing every weekend for Birmingham, the type of player who would fit into Trap's midfield. He might not be a major improvement on Whelan or Andrews, but he'd certainly be a better option than Miller or Gibson.

Are you related to Reid?
Seriously, to describe him as being awesome is way way OTT

The 2 players you have highlighted are centre midfielders. Andy would not be played at CM, also he is playing at wide left for his club.
At Left Midfield he is a better option than Keogh playing there out of position.
Trap has Duff, McGeady, Hunt and Lawrence ahead of him.

A Reid is a mystery. Last year when the bandwagon for his inclusion was in full flow, he was struggling to get on bench at Sunderland and was overweight. This summer he seems to have sorted himself out (again) and on form he is worth his place in squad. Not sure he fits into Traps first 11 system but with Duff and McCeady struggling he would be pushing for a place on form in their absence.

Traps abviously places a great emphasis on trust. Reid was in his squad and broke his trust over the guitar playing episode. He is paying for that but I'd hope Trap would see sense and take him back into squad. We can't afford to leave out players starting in the premiership and doing well.

He isn't an awesome player and whelan isn't as bad as some say. He does a solid job for Stoke and Ireland and in Traps system, that can't be undervalued.

My own personal opinion is that he could produce some magic as he has a sweet left foot, great vision and some terrific passing and has the ability to offer some inspiration to a team that does not have that extra dimension when he is not on the field. I'm not saying he would turn us into world beaters but certainly there is some value in having him in the squad and I think defenders would be very wary of him in the last third of the pitch.

He, moreso than Duff/McGeady/Miller/Hunt/Lawrence could produce one of those Sheedy/Houghton/Whelan moments which Irish fans have been missing in the last 15 years

There's no doubt he should be in the squad but with Jack Mark II managing he will probably not play for his country for years. The man I'm surprised at is Liam Brady. He should know better after the way Jack treated him. He is part of this setup and is basically agreeing that Liam Miller has more to offer than Andy Reid which any sane person couldn't agree with.
