Quote from: snoopdog on December 05, 2024, 11:26:03 AMThanks all for the suggestions. The building I'd prob end up having to do ;D . But yep def want something that can be upgraded and added too so I don't have to spend another fortune in 2 years time.

In this respect a desktop machine is more flexible than laptops which are something of a package (although I did add more RAM to one) and things like monitors can do for years.

What is a good spec for rtx? Alot of them have 4060 my young lad seems to think 4070 is as low as you should go?
Is there a noticeable difference?
Apologies for my ignorance in these matters.

Just off topic slightly.

XBox or Playstation for the young lad for Christmas?

What's the major differences?

What sort of money for a good set up? Controllers and head set required also.

Get him what his mates have. You can have cross platform games but not sure how widespread they are.

Meta quest 3 worth the money?

Daughter Macbook has stopped working, won't turn on, has been charged up for 24 hours but no lights no start up nothing, charging cables are working. Took it to Apple, they said (think) that the battery is ok but the motherboard ? might be done, then started quoting for new computer and so on...

Very vague in their diagnostics if I'm being honest, I didn't go in with her but that's the gist of the conversation..

Any experiences that can help or is it fecked? its 4 or 5 years old

Apple are c*unts....  similar issue on mine..told me it was that particular model of the Macbook .. had to replace screen £300
prob could have bought. refurb Mac for similar money

did you try IPHIX Lisburn/Belfast?

Look-Up!

Doesn't sound good TBH. If it was mine I'd try disconnect the battery altogether, leave it for an hour or so, and press the power button a few times during this period just to rule out a problem with the BIOS and discharge any capacitance that could be storing some glitch in memory. It's a long shot but I'm not familiar with the Macbook or know how to access the battery.

Milltown Row2

Yeah they didn't seem hopeful but its such an expensive piece of kit to be just cast away

Can't get into the battery area as with a lot of computers nowadays its unique fittings requiring unique tools to work with. a new motherboard (which they said could be an issue) might be got cheap enough

Will try IPHIX and see what they say, TBH I wouldn't say my daughter would be the most careful with computers over the years

If its a pre-apple silicon model I wouldn't bother fixing unless it's relatively cheap.

Yeah we got one, the cheaper 3s model.
Certainly impressive, though it makes me feel a bit sick! Must be old age. Kids love it.
It came with a Batman game which seems to have landed well. There's loads of what seem to be free games.
Fruit Ninja for example, my 8 year old loves it.

Used it briefly over Christmas as well and felt decidedly nauseous afterwards. Definitely not something you'd want to be on for a long period of time.

Not computer help directly, but Santa brought the young fellas an Xbox X/S and they want headsets with mics to go with the controllers.

I've already bought two from Amazon with the 3.5mm phone jack and they didn't work and don't want to be going to try and buy all the time.

Can anyone recommend a set that works with the Xbox X/S remote and not more than £30?

JC - wireless ones would be more than that unfortunately.

You would be looking 80/90 and that would be Argos type pricing.
