Quote from: general_lee on December 13, 2024, 01:57:25 PMFrom what I can tell Lissummon put in a motion blocking anymore than 3 IIs teams entering the JFC (or 16 teams overall). And Armagh being a county full of (too many) small clubs with their small club mentality voted in favour (funny they all cry about having to fork out £2k but not a peep when it comes to getting a full vote at convention lol).

All Junior clubs will automatically qualify regardless of league position, 2nds teams will be confined to a Junior B competition (so basically the Reserve championship has just been rebranded)

Entry into division 3 Ok for 2nds teams though yeah?

I also assume that some of the 2nds teams in the intermediate will also be pulled from that championship now too?  Cross and CE for example

Cross went down this year I think. I'd say Clann Eireann will be allowed work away.

Yeah i see that proposal and it only mentions junior, so you'd assume CE are OK to continue in the intermediate, because no club has complained. A very strange setup.

lurganblue

And does that leave it that Cross 2nds will play reserve championship, but if they win 3a they'll be back in the intermediate championship?

Armagh18

Top 3 seconds teams in the league will still play junior championship and you'd imagine Cross will be one of them.

And yeah they'd be intermediate the following year and playing in 2b league.

Harsh in the extreme. The reality is that all Clubs have a right to put forward a motion that is in their own best interests, and in this case it is not too much of a stretch to say that this issue could be one that could potentially end up seeing smaller Clubs fold. Interests do not get much greater than that.

The Lissummon delegate spoke brilliantly on behalf of the motion, and made it clear that the motion was based on a joint view of six or seven other Clubs, with whom they had been in touch, prior to the meeting.

Let's call it like it is - if the thing was being done right, there would be no need for this motion, as all Reserve Teams would be playing in their own Reserve league. That is not the fault of the Lissummons of this world.

nor is it the fault of the CEs or Cross of this world

Hopefully the motion will kick the county board into gear and they'll sort a proper reserve league so lads can get football.

No it's not, and yet I see them both doing very well out of the current arrangement.

I wouldn't be close enough to the detail of this but it seems very short sighted and defeatest from those small clubs.

Why?

Not really, think they need to be playing actual junior clubs rather than being hammered by a senior clubs second team.

These players are all Junior standard players surely, irrespective of what club they are playing with?

Why do Lissummon, etc. feel Junior players from other clubs have an advantage other than anything they create by the sweat of their brow?

some players on the fringe of a top senior team might be well above junior standard, equally you could have players who for whatever reason cant commit to the senior team. Think it's unfair on junior clubs, championships should be for first teams only.

the bigger issue is clubs not taking reserve football seriously, run the reserve championships properly and there be no issue, though in fairness I think every single county has the same issue with reserve champ.

general

Tyrone & Down do premier reserve leagues & championships just fine

Of course, but the flip of that is that we have county players on "smaller" junior clubs.  That wouldnt be the case on a 2nds team.
