A little surprised by this. Perhaps you can argue that he has had a bad hand dealt with the injury hit defence and he has still won the FA Cup. But then you consider the real lack of any discernible style of play, his management of players like Sancho, Rashford etc, and his big money spend on Anthony and I just dont see how the board think he's still the right man. Perhaps the options were limited.  I'm sure they put the feelers out.

It's hard to justify sacking a man who won more than anyother manager in the PL this past 2 seasons. Yes the league last season was a disaster, I'm just worried that rathcliffe is waiting on Southgate for next summer.

I don't think he's the man but I don't see too many other ready options. He won the cup and had an excuse list as long as your arm for the rest of the season, which they've bought and given him a stay. But it will be his last stay you'd imagine.
 What he'll be let do now in the transfer window will be telling. Of course he could turn it all around and become a legend, but if I had to put the house on it, he'll do well to see out the season.

Sancho is a disgrace, club didn't do their due diligence on his mentality. You won't find a match going fan happy to have him back. As for Rashford he's got a lot going on in the background affecting his play, hope he can sort that out over the summer which is not ETH's fault!

As for Antony he should have pulled the plug on the deal but when you're desperate and you'd idiots running the club you can see why he didn't! Murtough, Arnold & Co are more too blame, they were told by the scouting department his value was no more then £30m!

I've no idea if he's the right man yet but given the alternatives like the majority of fans I wanted him to stay.

His head is up his hole similar to Sancho. If Ferguson or Roy Keane were still about they'd have got the finger out or been long gone.

Spot on with the last paragraph, don't rate Southgate or Poch, not sure Tuchel is the right man either for a rebuild.

But was his first  season any better than Poch at Chelsea?  I thought yhat first season  was  very overhyped.  And last season  was shambolic.

My only conclusion is, like John O Shea with Ireland , is that they put the feelers out  and nobody obviously wanted  the  job , so the board  are now "backing the manager ". In reality , they  had no other choice

TBF they had to stop the hire and fie approach of the last few years for a period of some stability, it is just whether ETH can keep the wolves from the door, a big start to the season would be a huge help.

A poor start and he is in bother regardless.
