Is this thread for dinosaurs only or can anyone join in?

The job is to be a good pundit, convey the game tactically and critically in s a somewhat entertaining manner. The vast majority of sports pundits are awful regardless of gender.
Of the female pundits I have heard I'd say Karen Carney and Emma Hayes are very good in my opinion (or at least as good as the male ones)

Might be decent however her awful accent isn't easy to listen too. Is Gabby Logan still involved nowadays? Was among the better ones or be it more of a presenter than a pundit.

Quote from: Maroon Manc on October 06, 2023, 11:22:31 AMFootball punditry is a strange game, listening to lots of ex players who've no experience of playing or coaching; Jamie Redknapp is a clown but somehow has managed to stay employed for over a decade.

Got to be plenty of ex coaches and managers who'd do be comfortable in front of the camera's and do a better although Hasselbaink has plenty of managerial experience and he's not much better then Redknapp.

Emma Hayes is excellent but the rest of the female pundits are dreadful and they won't last long, Alex Scott was appalling yet somehow got a gig presenting and now funnily enough football focus is about to be axed as viewing figures have pummelled.

Alex Scott is awful.  I can't even make her out half the time .  There's another woman pundit on FF too , who has a slight speech impediment  and  I can hardly make her out either.  A pre-requisite for being a pundit /presenter should  be being a clear and precise speaker

This is not to  woman  bash though.  Plenty of poor male pundits too in both  codes.  Jermaine jenas is absolutely brutal. Danny Murphy  not great either.  Rio Ferdinand is difficult to understand too.

In GAA , Colm Cooper  isn't great.  Sean cavanagh  gets hysterical especially around Tyrone

Premier Emperor

I would enjoy listening to a female soccer pundit with a posh accent. Urban accents, or heavy northern accents are hard on the ears.

Gabby Logan is among the top presenters on the TV regardless of gender. She's excellent on the athletics as she knows enough but let's Michael Johnson, Denise Lewis etc. use their expertise.

Lady soccer pundits are easy to avoid and the wee Cockney one is hard to listen to. It's female commentators I find tough going - especially the loud one that goes OTT on BBC. Trying too hard.

To be honest, I rather listen to someone who played at the top level, maybe managed the same and can come across well. If you watch ladies football they fail at been on a top level with mens football, In american sports they have all the ladies at pitch side but the actual commentary on the game be it American football/ Basketball is totally comprised of men.

Jell 0 Biafra

Doris Burke regularly commentates on the NBA.  Does a better job than many of the male commentators.

Commentators/Analysists/Pundits are paid promoters, they are selling a product. They are not going to say how sh*te a game is. People in most cases have paid good money to watch the game they are analysing and they want to hold onto that customer. It's not their job to turn them away. Rugby and Hurling will never criticise their game as they realise that huge competition from Gaelic Football and more so Soccer.

Post of the year material right there.. Some posters need to take a long hard look at themselves and their offending outlook

There's a female commentator for the BBC don't know her name but she does be on the Match of the Day games and her voice does not suit for commentating at all IMO.
Other than that I don't really mind any of them. To be honest once I don't have to listen to Gary Neville or Jamie Carragher then I'm happy. Those two are the most annoying cnuts on TV. Michah Richards is another I can't listen to at all.

Mourne Red

As long as they know what they're taking about I don't care.. Plenty of shite male pundits about, Jenas, Neville, Murphy, Redknapp etc. Keegan just seems bitter that he's not getting any punditry gigs.

Also if we get it so that only people who've "played the game" "coached the game" then close down every thread on here because how many of us have coached at County level, managed premier league team or are involved in politics.

Am not getting at Ladies presenters in general, on the BBC GAA they are very good,Cantwell on Rte is poor, and her counterpart Hurley, on the Sunday Game, keeps using the dismissive Term, Northern Teams all the time. instead of calling them Ulster Teams.
