Having heard a lot about the big marketing push that was going to happen this year I must say the latest ad on RTE is terribly lifeless and  insipid.
A load of junior c footballers running around in front of a smoke machine while Ger Canning and Marty Morrissey do their 'thing' in the background.

ATTENTION RTE!
You used to do this stuff pretty well.
Just run these 3 ads every year and I'll be happy.

p.s. Does anyone else think it a bit weird that the first time RTE ran ads for the Allianz leagues was the week before the hurling FINAL i.e. when the leagues were over?
Bizarre.

that first youtube ad is great, with the joe connolly speech a stand out.

I know people say the marketing is shite, and that's true. But there is also so many factors why people are not too excited about things yet. Armagh don't play tyrone until 10th june, and that is the first big game as far as i can see. As well as that, the championship only really kicks off in mid july when it's at least provincial final time, and the back door is heading for round 4. So this sunday isn't do or die like the old days.

Anyway, is there any big championship supplements around in the papers  this week? the indo and the irish news usually do some good one's, or have i missed them already?

The ads I put up make you feel something, whether it be happiness, pride etc.
That's completely independent of whether there's a game worth watching on at the weekend.
My point is, the current ad campaign is so insipid that it doesn't add anything, and in actual fact, may create a negative perception.
RTE's presentation of our games is nothing short of terrible.
If you were any use you'd be playing.

Think the Irish News one is out on Friday. The Belfast Telegraph already had one out.

The guy leaves work he runs onto a dart train rips off his tie, runs through a crowd and through an open gate rips open his suit jacket to reveal a mayo top gets handed a ball, the crowd calling his name, it's the last minute the final Croke park is full as he takes the kick which could win mayo the all Ireland ....

With the champions league and the egg chasin on Saturday theres very little media coverage been given to the games on Sunday...theres five games as far as i can recall and the level of promotion is pretty poor to say the least...none of the papers even had a decent preview supplement and the games will probably get lost in weekend media due to everything else thats going on...

Bingo

Today FM just had there sports bulletin on and was no mention of the championship at weekend.

I'm guessing Matt cooper will talk about it after 6 but it will get little airplay for the first round which starts with a wimper.

To their credit newstalk off the ball did a good piece yesterday live from Galway. Paul Clancy,David Brady,Shane Curran,Alan Mullholland all gave their views & they will be covering the Longford v Laois game live at the weekend.
The key to success is to be consistently competitive -- if you bang on the door often it will open

supplements out today for irish news and the indo. The indo one is shite, the irish news is big alright but poor enough interviews. the star has theirs out 2mro.

didn't expect much coverage about the games this weekend TBH, the cavan donegal game is the only one of the top of my head that i know is on. The 2 european cup finals 2mro takes up a bit of coverage of course, though the soccer coverage is more about king kenny the past week than anything else

ONeill

I wonder if it's an age thing or an age thing.

1. You're so long in the tooth (TYP, Hardy, Lar na, SS2) that supplements hold no real value and are viewed as something for the young lad to rip the middle out of to hang on his wall.

2. With the Internet and the like it's a waste of print.

I read the Irish News one today and I know it'll go in the bin for recycling this weekend. Why even bother with a wallchart when you can check your phone at any given second.

Is there any point in print marketing?

Young lads don't read the papers. That Irish News one - those interviews with O'Neill etc mean nowt if they're turfed on their arse first day out. Just a nice glossy 8 page fixture guide for the bedside would suffice.

Think not what your county can do for you with the nun praying...lethal....the 48 sheet and magazine campaign was brilliant...was it around 2002/3? maybe why i think it was brilliant was that it was around the time of the Tyrone Armagh thing...also love that 'I love Louth campaign'.

id say that there was some serious underspending this year in marketing terms by the GAA...certainly the present campaign they have out is shite. Just watched it on TV....dung....and I hope its not a picture of the season to come.
