Some of you may have seen the avalanche report out in Truckee/Tahoe which is close to where I live. Scandalous decision making by the tour guides and the back skiiers themselves. Avalanche warning in place since Sunday AM and they still took a chance on Tuesday. One of the rescue team found their spouse amongst the deceased. Heartbreaking stuff

We've had about a foot and a half at my house, perhaps around 5600ft above sea level. Donner pass expected to receive around 4ft

I'd heard that the rescue team was searching for the spouse of one of their own, but didn't realise that it was they who actually found them.

The Donner Pass and Donner Party always fascinates me in a macabre sort of way.

This one hits hard.
You could see him fade away over the last two years in the videos and pictures that he posted. Cancer is not discriminatory - a fit 40-something couldn't overcome it, despite having everything to battle for and access to the best treatment.
He'd been selling show memorabilia to help fund his treatment. Horrible to be worrying about finances when going through a cancer journey.

My niece was th actress who played the little girl with the doll who got off the ship with her mum and survived, but had to leave their dad behind.

If she hadn't caught the gate with her arm (though was likely battling hard on the opening section), her knee may have been fine for the rest of the race.

Just thinking of all the restaurants I've been in the Alps where we've been in the basement with fondue, raclette, pierreade etc, all this heat and flame.
Designed to be cosy, with low ceilings and often stuffed with crap on the walls. Just never questioned if I was sitting in a tinder box.

2hrs 45 mins where 100 of Trump's comments/statements/rants were proven ti be factually incorrect. Fascinating stuff. He just makes stuff up consistently.

You might enjoy a half day at Fota Island animal park when you make it down to Cork - not a long distance from the airport, very pram friendly, and if your five year old is into animals, there's loads to see.

A few hotels on the outskirts if you wanted to drive down the night before - Fota Island resort itself is lovely and kid-friendly (pool, big playpark, fairy trail and probably even a kids club etc).

Plenty of tickets for weekend released on Sat night past there.

Strangely, the  last image on RTE's montage post match was Joe with a big smile on his face. He was clearly   very happy with  the result

so yes,  he's Kerry Joe now
