Israel aside, I do not think that was ever the MO of the US or UK in their responses and the execution of the "war on terror".

I think some people feel that pain and suffering in some far away place in Africa is less to that when it was brought upon places like Madrid/Paris/London/New York and while that is a small small fraction of the carnage that goes on everywhere else, it was still horrific and terror

I suppose if the planning was done , and things prepared for , then you would expect the new state to  function (albeit  with a bedding in period)  as  you'd expect most countries to  function

It took time to  adapt to the Euro , as I'm sure it did with things like  when the NHS started , pensions, benefits  system , or when more services moved online etc. Yes, there's  a lot more to deal with in a UI , but  things should run smoothly in time

Flags and anthems  , unionists won't recognise them anyway , just as  northern nationalists don't recognise GSTK and the union flag, so  that's hardly  the greatest obstacle. It's more symbolic than anything. 

So how much would  we be giving  up or compromising on  in reality? The main thing  would  potentially  be  peace.

Have to say was one of the weirdest nights 'entertainment' ever.

As a nation we just seem to jump from the current event to the next one no matter what it is.

I'm sure she will enjoy her retirement now in the US.

I have had no  interest really in Katie Taylor's career or  women's boxing.  I didn't even know it was live until  someone told  me a few hours before, so I  tuned in purely for the occasion.

It was a strange night. A  bit like St Patrick's day, up for the match and BBC NI's All Ireland final half time celebrity chat,  all rolled into one  big weird extravaganza.

The boxing itself wasn't  great. The commentators seemed to see  Taylor  punches landing that nobody else could see.  Pili didn't offer much going forward but she kept Taylor out particularly in early rounds.

Then you had the crowds  shots.  Fake tan, turkey teeth, lip fillers (And that was just the men), selfies/recording  everything on their phones.  Although AI finals are  the same now.

I heard €150 a ticket? Madness

Westlife were great  though. Are  they on the Top 3 list yet?

This day 1992 Serie A aired on Channel 4 for the first time. 3 million tuned in to watch Sampdoria draw 3-3 with Lazio.


Who remembers the tune?

Serie A was considered the cream of football  then, but in reality it  was  probably dire enough stuff. It was the big names  that drew me in  though, Gullit, Vialli, Van Basten ,  Lombardo, Ravenelli, Baggio,   Rijkaard, and a strange fascination as to  how Gazza (and Platt, Des Walker) was getting on. And later,  Paul  Ince.

RTE had a highlights show  on a Monday night too. Theme tune  brings me right back.

Just switched over for the pure cringe Martin Morrissey and Michael Flatley piece.
