I don't mean this in a confrontational way, I'm just genuinely curious about it, and I'm trying to get to the bottom of it. If you're an Irish person who supports an English soccer club, can you please answer the following questions. Just be as straight and honest as you can with each one.

1 - Which team do you support? Arsenal

2 - How long have you supported them? 1989

3 - Are you from the same town or city as that club? If not, do you have any personal or familial connection to it? Did you live there for a while? Do you live there now? No No No No

4 - If the answers to 3 are all no, why do you support this team? How did you pick them out of all that's available?
I was 9. You got to see limited football and I just gravitated towards the team. What were you gonna tell your friends at 9 or 10 - that you couldn't support Arsenal cause you lived next to St Julians Road and had to watch Omagh Town RIP)?

5 - When England plays in international competitions, how do you feel about them? Do you
a - Root for England, particularly any players from your favourite EPL club?

I remember they were in a lot of finals and going well in league (iirc) etc. when I was younger.

Are they still going in a lower level capacity or gone completely?

It's nice to have an event of scale in the city that doesn't involve wrecking the place.

Er, it was Slaughtneil with the high hits, roughing up from what i saw. Once about 3 of those tackles werent yellow carded, things were going to roughen up.

In a game where nobody really stood out I thought he was up there with pick of them in first half.
Take the two Derry starters out of it I thought Mc Williams was above the rest.

Not for me. Had little impact on the game in my opinion. Swatragh limited enough and without the goal, the game was over at half-time. Was expecting a bit more from them but maybe a derby brings it down a level or two.


Like a lot of teams, high in energy and running about but not much quality in attack. As I said, they only scored 7pts overall in 64 mins and a few of them were frees and 45m frees.


If you want a player who's 'above the rest' he'd need to be hitting 6pts from play. Maybe I caught him on a different day, it'd be a different story. 


Teams getting geared up for Championship now. Not many league games left so hopefully everybody will be injury free in the next few weeks.

Who did you think stood out for Slaughtneil because I thought they looked very average, perhaps you are right but little can be judged on a derby.

No. They were limited. Scored about 1-3 in total over 64 mins or so. That's limited in my book.


Again, alright saying they had plenty of frees but not converting them. Had, maybe, three free takers and not much success in my opinion. That's limited.

I know this isn't a big story in terms of the fires in Spain, France and Greece etc. but looking at gaa pitches in the south last week-end, a lot of them were yellow. In brutal condition with the water ban. Really poor.

Congratulations to Colin Ryan - All-Ireland medal and Poc Fada champion. Not a bad few weeks work. I'm sure he'll be a capable custodian if/when Quaid steps down. Ryan must have some puck out on him - if he comes in as No. 1, Hegarty may go into the full forward line.

Colin Ryan added a third M Donnelly All-Ireland Poc Fada title to the All-Ireland SHC medal he won with Limerick last month in the Cooley Mountains on Bank Holiday Monday.



The Pallasgreen clubman and Limerick sub-goalkeeper finished ahead of Mayo's Bobby Douglas and Clare's Eamon Foudy after getting around the Annaverna Mountain in 51 pucks. His previous successes came in 2021 and '25.


Former Cork goalkeeper Molly Lynch completed a six-in-a-row of camogie titles ahead of second-placed Chloe Morey from Clare and Caoimhe Higgins of Galway. Lynch's win leaves her just one behind Waterford's Patricia Jackman on the roll of honour.


Meanwhile, Conor Raleigh from Westmeath won back-to-back U16 hurling titles with Eloise McConn of Kildare taking the U16 camogie crown.



 

The  more AI's  continue to be shared  around the  other  counties, the better.

Over at Swatragh.v Slaughtneil, hardy enough game. Slaughtneil built up a good lead, maybe 0.10 to 0.01 at one point,  before a late Swatragh goal and a pt before halftime. Swatragh must misses 12/13 wides over the game. Slaughtneil kept them at distance 2nd half. Doubt some lads watching WWE summerslam yesterday,big pile up in the 2nd half. Took a few minutes to seperate it. Slaughtneil probably should had a few yellow for high tackles before it. Kept a 7 pt game up to near the end.

Definitely high tackles not sure what caused the bit of wrestling but couple reds flashed.

I assume reds in the league only apply to league games and don't transfer into the championship?

Rogers seemed to be fairly relaxed enough about the game and Shane couple moments of brilliant stuff but was happy to float about.

Its been said already but I'll say it again, what a player Oisin Mc Williams has the potential to be. Wasn't his best evening but there were times he looked like he has everything.

SN were always in charge. Got in front and only Swatragh's goal kept them in touch.


Was that lad Mc Williams sent off? He didn't stand out last night. Swatragh very reliant on frees. They hit alot of silly wides - lads trying to slice the ball over the bar from all angles etc.


No point trying to rough lads up when the game was over. Too late then. 


I think they, like a lot of teams, need a solid place kicker. Goalie and two/three others (I think) were on them. No consistently. You need a 80% score on your frees/45m to give you a chance. 


They got a goal in first half. Scored 7pts in total and maybe 4/5 frees or 45m frees in that amount. So 3/4 pts from play over 64mins or so isn't a great return in fairness.

Derry post used to cover most games, very ittle now.Mid Ulster Observer long gone. Replied on Club Pro putting their game reports with a couple of offica reports. Some mad reports i done for the Observer lol.

Is Derry Post still being printed? Very little in it now I'd say, if so? Them weekly newspapers are old news nowadays. People want their news/stories in an instant now.


Derry Podcast is behind a paywall now and I understand why. Them two lads attend a lot of games and give good coverage to gaelic games in the county. So they can't do it for nothing. They put in a huge effort.


Unless Derry County Board pay them and then they let it out free, I can't see the county board doing much else re: promoting gaelic games in the county i.e. like a Saffron Gael or Teamtalkmag in other counties. 

Having great weather is a bonus for the Fleadh. Bit of sunshine and being able to walk about helps no end with the atmosphere.
